Qatar University and Techno Lab to collaborate in the fields of research, engineering consultancy and knowledge transfer

Qatar University’s (QU) Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC) and the College of Engineering (CENG) sign a research cooperation agreement yesterday with Techno Lab, a member of Al Ali Holding, to establish cooperation in the fields of research, consultancy and knowledge transfer.

The agreement was signed by QU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Omar Al Ansari and Techno Lab Chairman Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al-Thani in the presence of officials from both institutions. It aims to establish collaboration between QU and Techno Lab in the academic, research and student training and field support, as well as the exchange of information and consultancy.

As part of the agreement, the QTTSC will provide Techno Lab with consultancy and workshops on transportation and traffic safety, smart transportation and geotechnical studies. QU’s CENG faculty will also support Techno Lab projects by ensuring knowledge transfer and progressive development of existing projects. Techno Lab will offer training to CENG students, as well as technical and technological support to QTTSC at all levels.

In a statement, Dr. Al Ansari said of the agreement, “This marks the continuation of a series of agreements with the private sector to ensure that the University provides excellent research and advisory services that stimulate the sustainable economic and social development of Qatar. This agreement, which we sign today, affirms Qatar University's continuous efforts to find solutions to the challenges facing the various sectors in the country and to expand the means of cooperation to serve local institutions in line with national priorities towards a knowledge-based economy."

Commenting on the agreement, CENG Dean Prof. Abdelmagid Hammuda said, “The agreement highlights CENG and QTTSC’s continuous efforts to provide solutions to local challenges, in line with national priorities towards a knowledge-based economy. It will also serve to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer and provide consultancy and research services, which will contribute to driving socio-economic development and sustainability in the State of Qatar.”

In his speech, Techno Lab Chairman Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al-Thani said, "This agreement is proof of our cooperation with Qatar University’s College of Engineering in various fields of research and consulting, including studies, quality services and exchange of knowledge for the benefits of Qatar and community.”

QTTSC Director Prof. Faris Tarlochan added saying, "Traffic safety is of great interest to the State of Qatar. In January 2013, the National Road Safety Strategy (2013-2022) was launched to enhance Qatar's commitment to reduce road accidents and make a difference in this area. Traffic accidents and their consequent losses have become major obstacles to improving health and development plans, especially for the youth, as they are the most vulnerable to traffic accidents."
