GPC biennial symposium a huge success
The 4th International Gas Processing Symposium held on October 26-27 drew the attendance of over 300 people including officials from the government, industry, academic, and business sectors, scientists, researchers, and university students.
Organized every two years by the Gas Processing Center (GPC) and its consortium members, the symposium is an opportunity for participants to address the achievements and challenges related to gas production and processing.
This year’s event which was held under the patronage of Qatar Minister of Energy and Industry H.E. Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, was themed Natural Gas and World’s Energy Mix, and was sponsored by Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil, RasGas, QAFAC, Oryx GTL and Dolphin Energy.
QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad was among the list of invited speakers at the opening ceremony who included QP Managing Director Mr Saad Al Kaabi, Rasgas Chief Operations Officer Mr. Hamad Mubarak Al Muhannadi, ExxonMobil Vice President of Qatar and General Manager of Al Khaleej Gas Mr Alistair Routledge, Dolphin Energy General Manager Mr Adel Ahmed Albuainain, Oryx GTL CEO Mr Abdul Rahman Al-Suwaidi, and QAFAC CEO Mr Nasser Jeham Al-Kuwari.
In the opening ceremony program, GPC Awards were presented by Prof Al-Misnad to Mr Saad Al Kaabi (Advancementof Gas Processing Industry in Qatar), Mr Nasser Jeham Al-Kuwari (Excellence in Gas Processing Practice Award); and University of California at Berkeley James and Neeltje Tretter Chair professor of chemistry Omar Yaghi (Excellence in Gas Processing Research Award).
Prof Al-Misnad, along with several VIP guests, inaugurated the symposium’s exhibition that featured booths by College of Arts and Sciences, Environmental Studies Center, QP, QAPCO, Dolphin Energy, Oryx GTL, ExxonMobil, QAFAC, and BHR.
Symposium keynote speakers for the 2-day program were University of California Executive Director of Energy and Sustainability Prof Amy Jaffe Myers, ETH Zurich Institute of Process Engineering professor of process engineering Prof Marco Mazzotti, University of Regina Industrial & Process Systems Engineering Prof Paitoon Tontiwachwuthikul, Qatar Shell Technology manager Eng Rob Overtoom, and RasGas manufacturing manager Mr Fahad Al Khater.
The event program continued on October 28 when symposium delegates participated in an industrial trip to Oryx GTL plant at Ras Laffan City.
