Qatar University and the International Road Federation sign MoU on cooperation in the field of traffic safety

The Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC) at Qatar University’s College of Engineering (QU-CENG) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Road Federation (IRF) to establish collaboration on the exchange of information and expertise on traffic safety.

QU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Omar Al Ansari and IRF Director-General Mrs. Susanna Zammataro signed the MoU in the presence of CENG Dean Dr. Khalid Kamal Naji, QTTSC Director Prof Faris Tarlochan, as well as QU faculty and staff.

The terms of the MoU include collaboration on the evaluation of the current studies and consultations in the area of traffic safety. Both parties will cooperate to develop effective road safety initiatives such as awareness campaigns and new training programs for drivers and road professionals and will run development programs in coordination with international organizations and research centers. Other areas of collaboration include joint research projects in areas of transportation and traffic safety.

Commenting on the MoU, Dr. Khalid Kamal Naji said, “Road safety is one of the main areas of interest in Qatar, and the College of Engineering through QTTSC continues to highlight its commitment to road safety by investing in research and awareness programs that would help find sustainable solutions to the road and traffic challenges in Qatar. This MoU demonstrates CENG’s continuous efforts to contribute to road safety in Qatar by reducing road traffic crashes and developing a safe road transport system in line with the National Road Safety Strategy.”

Mrs. Susanna Zammataro said, “We are delighted to strengthen our collaboration with Qatar University. The challenges we face when it comes to road safety require us to work very closely together. Research and good data are fundamental for us to understand in depth the issues, and they are equally fundamental for tailoring appropriate solutions. IRF strongly believes in the power of partnerships and we look forward to working hand in hand with Qatar University to deliver better roads and better road safety for all.”
