QU KINDI Center for Computing Research launches the Women in Cyber Security Workshop

KINDI Center for Computing Research at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) launched the Women in Cyber Security Workshop October 2019 sponsored by QNRF, Dolphin Energy Limited, Thales, GEODE and supported by NATO.

The workshop represents a gathering for experts and researchers in the area of women in cybersecurity to reach solutions that can stand to today’s challenges of women in cybersecurity.

Attending the opening ceremony were HE Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber, Chairperson for Es'hailSat (Qatar); Dr. Noora Fetais, Director of KINDI Center for Computing Research (Qatar); Prof. Frederick Douzet, Director of GEODE Center, University Paris 8 (France); Dr. Deniz Beten - Senior Science for Peace and Security Program and Partnership Cooperation Adviser, NATO; Mrs. Isabelle Valentini, Deputy Policy, French Cyber Command (France).

In her opening speech, Dr. Fetais said, “Through this workshop, QU is supporting the vision of the National Cyber Security Strategy, which represents a roadmap to raise the awareness of the importance of cyber security, and contributes to the preservation of the fundamental rights and values of Qatari society."

Dr. Noora Fetais said, "Until recently, cybercrime was limited to individuals or small groups, but as Internet networks expanded, these crimes became more complex and widespread, causing significant damage to companies and institutions. Although there is an evolution in the systems of some institutions, they are not immune to cyber-attacks because of the development of mechanisms and methods of electronic hackers, and hence all institutions need to develop a plan for the development of their infrastructure to enhance cyber security."
