Dr. Sin-itiro Tomonaga became Professor of Tokyo Bunrika Daigaku, the forerunner of the University of Tsukuba, in 1941. Dr. Tomonga developed the super-many-time and renormalization theories and unraveled interactive nature between the motions of electrons in the magnetron. From 1956 to 1962 he served as President of the Tokyo University of Education. He also served as President of the Science Council of Japan and Director of the Institute for Optical Research until he retired in 1969. Researchers who received Dr. Tomonaga's guidance developed physics research and the research genealogy was succeeded by the University of Tsukuba.\

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Dr. Tomonaga's birthday, the University of Tsukuba held "Memorial Project for the 100th Anniversay of Dr. Sin-itiro Tomonaga's Birth"
