Program overview

The St John’s College Cambridge—Nagoya University exchange program offers a unique two-week academic and cultural exchange experience. This program provides Nagoya U niversity students with direct access to one of Cambridge University’s most prestigious colleges, founded in 1511 and consistently ranked among the top Cambridge colleg es for academic excellence.

St John’s College is one of the largest Oxbridge colleges in terms of student numbers and over 35 percent of its students earn first-class honours. The college has e ducated winners of twelve Nobel Prizes, seven prime ministers, and numerous distinguished academics across all disciplines.

Program structure and requirements

The exchange operates as a reciprocal program where Nagoya University students visit Cambridge for two weeks towards the end of Lent Term (February-March), while St J ohn’s students visit Nagoya for two weeks in July. Participants work collaboratively on an interdisciplinary project that bridges both institutions’ academic strengths .

All successful applicants are required to participate in exchange activities organised by both institutions, and the collaborative project work culminates in a presen tation event held at Nagoya University in July. The program emphasises academic excellence in selection, with students from all year groups and disciplines eligible to a pply based on their academic performance and potential benefit from international exchange.

St John’s College provides extensive support for international academic collaboration through its established exchange partnerships and generous funding schemes. The college covers accommodation costs for visiting students and organises structured activities designed to maximise both academic and cultural exchange opportunities.
