Taking on local and global challenges with interdisciplinary approaches
Environmental problems, exemplified by climate change, represent the greatest challenge humanity faces this century. We must address this challenge in a way that leaves no one behind. To do so, we must learn from Earth’s 4.6 billion-year history (Earth and Environmental Sciences), create comfortable and sustainable living environments (Environmental Engineering and Architecture), and explore ways for people with diverse values to live together (Social and Human Environmental Studies).
The Graduate School of Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary graduate school that brings together science, engineering, and the humanities and social sciences. Here, you can deepen your expertise to achieve breakthroughs or discover new approaches by bridging multiple fields. We encourage you to develop your capacity with us to help address environmental and other common challenges facing humanity.

G30 and other international programs
All three departments of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies welcome international students. The Graduate School also offers international programs such as the Nagoya University Global Environmental Leaders Program (NUGELP), the Earth and Environmental Sciences G30 Program, and the Civil and Environmental Engineering G30 Program.

The International Office of GSES promotes global exchange and collaboration through advising sessions with international students, English and Japanese conversation cafés, environmental study tours, short-term study abroad programs, and joint events with overseas universities.
