Ethics

In order to pursue ethical research activities, Nagoya University set up the Responsible Person for Ethical Research and the Ethical Research Committee. Also, it laid down the measures to be taken when research misconduct occurs.

Research misconduct means intentional figment, tampering, and fraudulent use in application, implementation, reporting, or examination of a research. Any person who suspects research dishonesty in Nagoya University may make the allegation regardless of whether the person is internal or external to the University.

The contact place for allegation is provided in a law firm outside the University to protect the petitioner’s human rights. An allegation is submitted in a document with the petitioner’s name, address, etc. clearly stated. However, the petitioner may request his/her name, etc. concealed in the procedure that follows.

When concealment of name, etc. is requested, the petitioner’s name, address, etc. are not disclosed by the law firm to either the Responsible Person for Ethical Research or the Ethical Research Committee. However, it may produce restriction in implementation of investigation.

Even where concealment of the name, etc. is not requested, they are notified only to a small number of committee members engaged in the investigation and are not disclosed without permission of the petitioner him / herself.

The committee members engaged in the investigation are obliged to keep confidentiality.
