# 《清华大学荐读书目》清华师生共读经典--曹莉老师导读《荒原》

艾略特在《荒原》中重点展现了一种“荒原意识”，所谓“荒原意识”就是对西方文明的幻灭。正如“过去因现在而改变，就像现在被过去所指引”。通过今昔对比，来表达对西方文明的悲观和焦虑。《荒原》体现了艾略特对世界、对人生、对文化、对文明以及对人类生存的一个比较深层次的洞见。推荐此书让读者能够在人类文明的长河中对西方文明乃至整个人类文明的当下和未来走向，有一个必要的预期。\

曹莉 剑桥大学博士，清华大学人文学院外文系长聘教授、博士生导师, 欧美文学研究中心主任。历任校务委员会委员、新雅书院副院长兼教学委员会主任、外文系副系主任。兼任国际英语语言文学大学教授协会（IAUPE）联席主席、联合国教科文现代语言文学国际联盟（FILLM）副主席、中国外国文学学会英国文学研究分会副会长、英语文学研究分会副会长、第八届国务院学科评议组成员。主要著作和编著有：《史碧娃克》《永远的乌托邦》《大学理念与人文精神》《文明的冲突与梦想》《艺术人文》《文学艺术的瞬间与永恒》《新旅程》《剑桥批评：中国与世界》《永不终结的契合：王佐良纪念文集》《游走于文明之间：新雅海外游学札记》等。
