# 【Report】Shiroishi Trip Hosted by Tohoku University International Student Help Desk

The Tohoku University International Student Help Desk organizes annual trips to promote exchange between international and domestic students. This autumn, we visited Shiroishi City in Miyagi Prefecture on November 9th.

A total of 37 participants, including 35 international students and 2 domestic students, visited several spots showcasing the region's history and culture, such as Hekisui-en (Tohoku's only Noh theater) and Shiroishi Castle. At Hekisui-en, after watching a performance of “Fujimusume” by Japanese classical dance performer Ms. Wakayanagi Baikyo, participants stepped onto the Noh stage. They received instruction on basic Japanese etiquette, including seiza (formal sitting), bowing, and walking. They also experienced dancing to the traditional piece “Sakura”. \
For lunch, they savored the local specialty “Shiroishi U-men,” with many students delighted by its warm, gentle flavor.\
The stroll through Shiroishi Castle was especially popular among the participants. Students enjoyed the view from the keep, wandered the castle grounds taking photos, and spent some free time as they pleased.

Participating students shared comments such as: “It was a rare and valuable opportunity to stand on a real Noh stage,” “Exploring Shiroishi Castle was fun,” “The autumn leaves were beautiful,” and “It was a great chance to bond with other international students.” \
This cultural experience provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect and share their backgrounds and experiences.

This visit to Shiroishi City not only deepened participants' understanding of Japanese culture but also provided a meaningful opportunity for international exchange. Moving forward, we plan to further encourage natural conversations among students in addition to cultural experiences. The Help Desk will continue developing programs that help students deepen their connections with the local community, culture, and people.
