Working together to transform hearing health
The Macquarie University Hearing Research Centre integrates cutting-edge discoveries, clinical expertise and effective connectivity to generate knowledge that reshapes hearing health policy and practice on a global scale.
About us
Hearing loss can:
- hinder access to spoken communication, which in turn can impede the development of spoken language in children, and increase the risk of dementia and cognitive decline in older individuals
- have adverse impacts on various aspects of a person's life when not addressed, encompassing feelings of loneliness, isolation, depression and anxiety.
Measures such as early childhood screening, the use of hearing devices, efficient management of conditions like otitis media can alleviate this burden.
Together we are developing innovative solutions that benefit millions of people living with hearing loss worldwide, making a real difference in the community.
Our approach
Our mission is to transform hearing health through ground-breaking research. We do this through:
- Innovation: We generate cutting-edge technologies, therapies, interventions, policies and practices that support healthy communication, wellbeing and social connectedness.
- Expertise: Our centre is made up of a diverse community of experts, from early- and mid-career researchers through to leaders in the hearing industry.
- Collaboration: We proudly bring together researchers in hearing, brain and language sciences alongside people with lived experience; industry, government and not-for-profit organisations; and experts in STEM, health, economics and social sciences.
