## Apply directly for our Study Abroad program

Follow our step-by-step guide to apply directly for a semester like no other at Macquarie University.

- Complete the [online application](https://admissions.mq.edu.au/apply.cfm?ccc=STUDYAB&title=Study%20Abroad%20Program).
- Upload [certified copies](https://www.mq.edu.au/study/admissions-and-entry/apply/international/documentation) of your passport, [English language proficiency](https://www.mq.edu.au/study/admissions-and-entry/apply/international/english-language-requirements) and academic transcripts before the application deadline.
- Pay careful attention to the number of units you select in your Study Abroad package. A 3-unit package cannot be changed to a 4-unit package after acceptance, and vice versa. Think carefully about how many units you plan to study at Macquarie before you finalise your application.

If your application is successful – congratulations and welcome to Macquarie! Your offer letter will include instructions on how to accept your offer.

Return your signed offer acceptance with the tuition fees payment receipt and [proof of your OSHC](https://students.mq.edu.au/support/international/student-visa/overseas-student-health-cover).

- Once we've received your offer acceptance, we'll issue you with a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE).
- [Apply for your student visa](https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/) via the Department of Home Affairs with your COE. Visa applicants should refer to the [Document Checklist Tool](https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/web-evidentiary-tool) to find out which documents need to be attached to their visa application and acceptable English language tests to satisfy the visa requirements.

**Note:** The [International Tuition Fee Refund policy](https://policies.mq.edu.au/document/view.php?id=120) will apply to most refunds. If you're applying to Macquarie University through a program provider, contact the program administrators for refund policy information.

### Select your Macquarie University units

As a Study Abroad student at Macquarie University, you can enrol in any available unit indicated on our [Open Access Units List](https://www.mq.edu.au/study/information-for/international/study-abroad-exchange-and-study-tours/open-access-units).

If you wish to enrol in units that have prerequisites (what we call Approval Required Units), you need to apply for a [Special Approval (Waiver)](https://students.mq.edu.au/study/enrolling/choosing-units/unit-waivers). You can check the requisites for your units of choice in the [Course Handbook](https://coursehandbook.mq.edu.au).

Make sure your unit selections aren’t on the [Closed Units List](https://www.mq.edu.au/study/information-for/international/study-abroad-exchange-and-study-tours/closed-units), which contains all units that are prohibited for Study Abroad and Exchange students.

Follow the advice below to ensure a smooth process.

- Submit Special Approval requests:
  - for several units so that you have options in case you do not receive approval for some of them,
  - as soon as possible and before the commencement of the session.
- Make sure your home institution has approved of your choice of units before enrolling.

### Applying

Program representatives can submit applications on behalf of applicants via the [online application portal](https://admissions.mq.edu.au/apply.cfm?ccc=STUDYAB&title=Study%20Abroad%20Program).

Alternatively, program representatives can instruct students to apply independently via the [online application portal](https://admissions.mq.edu.au/apply.cfm?ccc=STUDYAB&title=Study%20Abroad%20Program), answering ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Are you applying via a third party provider or a Macquarie representative?'
