About
Background
The OpenUAE Research & Development Group spearheads cutting-edge research initiatives to drive the successful adoption of Open-Source Software (OSS) across the nation. With a strategic focus on OSS, Security, Blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Large Language Models (LLMs), Quantum Computing, and Autonomous AI Agents, the group remains at the forefront of technological innovation. In addition to research, it designs advanced solutions and delivers specialized training and consultancy services to empower both the public and private sectors. This forward-thinking initiative is closely aligned with the University of Sharjah’s mission and supports the ambitious vision set forth by the UAE’s "We the UAE 2031" national agenda.

Objectives
- Develop, apply, and evaluate OSS solutions in many sectors in the UAE. Our research group will play a vital role and take the lead in many OSS projects, such as security, medical applications, environmental applications, etc.
- Contribute to the research world by sharing our findings locally and internationally through workshops, conferences, and journals.
- Design of Blockchain reference model, and development of information security management assurance guidelines and security recommendations.
- Report findings on research partners, to local, regional, and international organizations.
- Establish an OSS awareness campaign through workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Provide training and consultancy services to UAE government entities

Prof. Qassim Nasir, Dr. Manar Abu Talib, Dr. Ali Bou Nassif, and Dr. Mian Ahmad were among the top 2% Researchers in the world 2023, as per Digital Commons Data.
Prof. Qassim Nasir was the Workshop Chair in the 2nd International Workshop on Intelligent Systems and Paradigms for Next Generation Computing Evolution (INSPIRE) in conjunction with the 17th IEEE/ACM Utility and Cloud Computing Conference (UCC).
Dr. Manar Abu Talib is Associate Editor in IEEE Transactions on Services Computing.
Dr. Manar Abu Talib was the associated chair for IEEE Symposium on Women in Services Computing (WISC 2025).
Dr. Manar Abu Talib has been recognized by the UoS Chancellor for securing external research grants.
Dr. Manar Abu Talib has been the chair of the annual Women in Research Forum for five years.
Dr. Manar Abu Talib has co-chaired SECOND INTERNATIONAL INNOVATION X.0 FORUM (“Towards a Sustainable and Innovative Future,” From an Education and Research Perspective).
Dr. Sohail chaired a session at the SECOND INTERNATIONAL INNOVATION X.0 FORUM.
Dr. Sohail acted as a TPC member at two international conferences, i.e., IEEE COINS 2024 and EAI BigIoT-EDU 2024.
Dr. Mian acted as a Session Chair of IEEE COINS 2024.
Dr. Mian acted as a Steering committee Chair of EAI BigIoT-EDU 2024.
