Because the Arabic language, our symbol of identity, is grossly under resourced in information technology, and because language resources are essential for both technology development and linguistic analysis,
This research group shall endeavor to compile electronic linguistic and translation resources that will facilitate natural language processing and linguistic research alike. It shall develop technology that will make Arabic more adept for scientific communication, produce linguistic research that will improve lexicography, language learning, and translation, and train graduate and undergraduate students on Arabic corpus and computational linguistics.
Potentially, it brings together researchers from Arabic, Foreign Languages, Computer Science, Information Systems, and Computer Engineering. Currently, its members are: Group Members: Sane Yagi, Shehdeh Fareh, Ashraf Elnagar, Mariam Balajeed, Saad Harous, Bassam Hammo, and Majdi Sawalha.
- To compile electronic linguistic and translation resources that will facilitate natural language processing and linguistic research alike;
- To develop technology that will make Arabic more adept for scientific communication;
- To produce linguistic knowledge that will improve language understanding, language learning, and translation;
- To produce computational, lexicographic, and linguistic resources and tools;
- To train graduate and undergraduate students on Arabic corpus and computational linguistics.

It shall be focused on developing computational resources and tools, and on doing research that will:
- Produce annotated corpora that may be used for training machine learning algorithms.
- Contribute to better teaching of Arabic as a foreign language.
- Produce lexicographic, semantic, and computer science knowledge that can be used for an Arabic dictionary on historical principles.
- Develop computational linguistic tools that serve the language user and learner.
- Train MA and PhD students of Arabic, Linguistics, Translation, and Computer Science.
