## Rules and Regulations

### General Regulations

- Upon moving into the dormitory, residents are advised to obtain a local mobile phone number to facilitate
  communication with the supervisors.
- Residents need to register at reception every evening between 20:00 and 22:00 to confirm their presence in
  the dorm.
- The dorms provide cleaning services once a week at a time convenient to the resident and after she ensures
  that her belongings are secured.
- The supervisor has the right to access any dorm room in specific cases such as ensuring the cleanliness of
  the room, investigating violations or to ascertain the presence of the resident in her room at night time.
  It is worth noting here that residents need to confirm their presence at the dorm in person between 20:00
  and 22:00.
- Residents wishing to leave the dorm in the company of their families or their representatives must obtain
  the supervisor's permission and register in the dorm logbook at departure and upon their return.
- To visit the sports complex or students centre after 17:00, residents must register with the supervisors and
  the policewomen stationed at the W-13 gate at departure and arrival.
- In case a resident wishes to visit friends in other dorms, whether before or after 22:00, she must sign her
  name in the relevant register at departure and upon arrival back to her dorm

### Transportation

Students wishing to use the bus to travel within the country during the weekend are required to register in
advance otherwise they might not be able to utilize this service. Also, please note that the bus is only
available when enough students register to use.

### Travel

Student guardians need to inform our administrative staff of any travel arrangements for their daughters by
E-mailing [wdorm@sharjah.ac.ae](mailto:wdorm@sharjah.ac.ae ) at least 48 hours in advance specifying
departure and return dates and times and attaching a copy of their IDs. Please note that the last bus leaves
campus at 10:45 p.m. and buses only run to Sharjah and Dubai airports. Students also need to ensure that there
is plenty of time between the time of their classes and travel time.

### Medical Appointments

All medical appointments need to be arranged within the emirate of Sharjah. The same applies for appointments for
visa and Emirates ID renewal. To attend these appointments, students are required to book their transportation
24 hours in advance taking into consideration our working hours. Please note that a medical clinic is available
in W3 for all our students during university working hours.

### Permits

Overseas residents who carry a transportation permit can apply for an extra permit (teacher permit), which allows
them to leave the dorm twice a week for a maximum of 4 hours each time. Student holding public transport
permits who fail to return at the assigned time are subject to the following measures:

- Returning after curfew between 23:00 and 24:00: the student will be denied use of the public taxi for a week
  and the guardian will be informed of the incident.
- Returning after curfew between 24:00 and 01:00 a.m.: the student will be denied use of the public taxi for
  two consecutive weeks and the guardian will be informed of the incident.
- Returning after curfew past 01:00 a.m.: the student will be denied use of the public taxi for three
  consecutive weeks and the guardian will be informed of the incident. In addition, the student will receive a
  formal warning.

### General Regulations

Dorm residents should observe the following:

- Maintenance of personal and public hygiene
- Keeping rooms clean and tidy
- Avoiding tampering with dorm property and equipment
- Refraining from hanging pictures, drawings, or logos on walls, doors, and glass for any reason without prior
  permission from the supervisor or the administration
- Delivering discarded linens to the dorm supervisor who would then take the necessary measures
- Rules for efficient use of water and electricity
- Norms of acceptable attire when in public areas such as the reception, administration offices, and
  restaurants
- Refraining from disturbing others
- Avoiding bringing private cars into the dormitory
- Refraining from bringing children to the dormitory
- Refraining from bringing animals to the dormitory
- All university rules and regulations and instructions issued by the Deanship for Academic Affairs

### Residents should also note the following rules:

- Smoking is strictly prohibited. Violators of this rule are referred to our disciplinary committee.
- Residents must observe the official working times of the library and university transport services.
- Photography of other students and/or dorm supervisors inside the dorms is strictly prohibited.
- Dorm doors are shut at 12:00 a.m. except on Thursday and Friday when they are closed at 01:00 a.m. after
  which time students are not allowed outside the building.

### Personal and Dorm Property

Resident should be aware that:

- It is the resident's sole responsibility to secure her personal items and valuables. The deanship will not
  consider cases of loss of personal property as a result of owner's negligence.
- It is strictly prohibited to paint, write on, or put up posters on the dorm room walls. Violators will be
  fined.
- It is not permissible to post any advertisements and/or announcements in the dorms without first referring
  to our administration who would then verify their authenticity and accuracy.
- When leaving their rooms, residents must disconnect any electrical devices and switch off the lights for
  their won and their colleagues' safety.
- Residents wishing to bring any extra furniture to residents' room must first obtain dorm management's
  permission.
- Residents wishing to bring any extra furniture to their rooms must first obtain dorm management's

- When vacating her dorm room, a resident must submit a written statement from her guardian that indicates
  his/her knowledge and approval.
- During term and summer holidays, residents are required to vacate their rooms of any personal belongings.
  Only residents themselves are allowed store their property in the assigned lockers. The dormitory bears no
  responsibility for the loss of items left in the resident's wardrobe.
- In case a resident faces any problems, she is advised to contact the dorm receptionist who is available
  24hrs a day.
