## About

Welcome to the Modeling and Optimization for Sustainable Operations and Supply Chains (MOSOS) research group! Our mission is to establish and accelerate basic and applied research in modeling, optimization, and decision-making for sustainable supply chains and operations within UoS. We aim to raise the university's national and international profile in this interdisciplinary area through collaboration with academia, industry, and society at large. We are committed to supporting organizations in their sustainability efforts and proliferating sustainability through research activities and applications. Together, we will strive to achieve our goals and make a significant impact in this field.

## Lines of Research

The research activities of the group evolve around the three levels of decision making (strategic, tactical and operational) in manufacturing and service complex systems with a focus on sustainability. They include the following:

- Design of sustainable supplier and transportation networks: modelling and optimization of the economic, social, and environmental aspects.
- Management and scheduling of sustainable home healthcare systems: solutions toward sustainable home healthcare in the UAE.
- Design of integrated sustainable supply chains considering innovative technologies for heavy industries.Modelling and developing energy-efficient schedules for the manufacturing sector in the UAE.

To address these problems, the group develops decision Support Systems (DSS) that consider economic, environmental, and social objectives. It combines optimization techniques such as mathematical modelling, metaheuristics, multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and simulation tools.

## Highlights

The group members were active in participating in different conferences and were awarded many recognitions. For more details, kindly visit the members’ web pages:

## Collaboration

The research topics of interest to the research group are at the heart of a growing trend. They are not limited to a specific sector, aligning closely with the University of Sharjah's strategy. This alignment indicates a substantial potential for collaboration with several other research entities, at the local, regional, and international levels.

- Local level: potential collaborations include the Research Institute of Sciences & Engineering (RISE), where the group will reside, and the Research Institute of Medical & Health Sciences.
- Regional and international levels: MOSOS aims to establish regional and international collaborations with renowned international centers in the related fields.

Beyond academic institutions, MOSOS will collaborate with professionals across multiple sectors, including distribution and retail, healthcare, public transportation, and governmental agencies, through applied and collaborative research projects, focusing on achieving top sustainability performance in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
