Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences Hosts Student Research Forum
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) held its fourth Student Research Forum, highlighting the depth and diversity of student-led innovation across Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
The forum provides a platform for students to present original research, test ideas, and engage in meaningful dialogue with peers and faculty. In doing so, the gathering fosters a culture of excellence and reflects HBKU’s commitment to cultivating academically robust scholarship that is also responsive to contemporary societal challenges.
This year’s edition brought together students from the CHSS alongside peers from the College of Islamic Studies (CIS), College of Law, and College of Public Policy (CPP). Presentations spanned diverse thematic areas, underscoring the value of cross-disciplinary perspectives in addressing complex issues.
Reflecting on the forum, Dr. Mehdi Riazi, Professor and Associate Dean for Research, CHSS, said: “The immersive academic experience and world class facilities that we offer position our university as a leader in education. We are proud to provide this platform for students to learn from experts, conduct their own research, and make a real impact through their work.”
The forum concluded with an announcement of winning presentations selected by a panel of judges. First place went to ‘From Mahmoud to Manuel Jaime: The Identity Shift of Arab Names in Latin America,’ by Fairuz Yosef Issa, MA student in Intercultural Communication, CHSS. ‘The Role of Language Mediators in Qatar's Private Primary Schools: Supporting Culturally Responsive Pedagogy,’ by Chourouk Kobeissi, PhD student in Humanities and Social Sciences, CHSS, finished second. ‘Therapeutic Architecture for Autism: A Proposal for an Inclusive School in Palestine,’ by Ahmed Azzam, a student of MS in Islamic Art, Architecture and Urbanism, CIS, completed the top three and also bagged the People's Choice Award.

The Power of Words
Testimonials
I am proud to be part of a college that offers such great programs. The Digital Humanities and Societies program covers trending topics such as algorithmic bias, artificial intelligence and Natural Language Processing. What really excites me about studying Digital Humanities is getting the chance to discuss and debate the social implications of technologies in a world that is occupied by different societies and cultures.
