What is the role of the student engagement office?

The Student Engagement Office engages students in activities and programs outside the classroom.

Who is the focal point if we have any ideas or concerns?

You can contact us at: student.engagement@hbku.edu.qa

Can we volunteer in the activities and events organized by Student Affairs?

Yes, you can volunteer in some events, lincluding orientation and graduation.

The office always sends out volunteer opportunities in the weekly email.

How can I register in student engagement office activities?

With each event announcement, there will be a registration link that can be filled and submitted online.

How can I be informed about student engagement office services and activities?

The office shares a weekly announcement of activities, programs, and news through student.engagement@hbku.edu.qa

How can we establish a new club or organization?

New club or organization proposals must be submitted to Student Engagement and approved by the Student Affairs Office.

What are the benefits of joining student clubs?

The goal is to contribute to the shaping of new intellectual leaders, who benefit from the newly established culture in HBKU to effectively develop academic and personal skills.

How can we learn about the available clubs?

Announcement of clubs is at the beginning of each new academic year, during orientation and through an email announcement.

Are there any specific requirements needed in order to join the student clubs?

Yes, each student club has its own criteria.

Are there any membership fees for student clubs?

There is no fee.

Is there any deadline for joining the clubs?

Usually, student clubs are created at the beginning of the academic year,  which is when students can join.

There may be exceptions in some cases, for instance, where members withdraw and  a replacement is required for the year.

Do I have to renew my membership in a student club annually?

Yes, to renew, you need to email: student.engagement@hbku.edu.qa

Who is the focal point for managing all student clubs?

There is a SA focal point for each student club.

Does the Student Affairs office provide funds for activities organized by the clubs?

If the activity is approved by SA, they can cover any costs.

What are the activities of the student clubs?

The type of activities vary – some includesports activities, social gatherings, entertainment events, exhibitions, educational events, national celebrations, and more.

Can I get involved in more than one club?

Yes, you can join more than one club.

Does joining a student club require commitment?

Yes, being a member of any club requires commitment.

How do members of a club communicate/meet?

Members communicate and meet as agreed through different channels (face-to-face meetings, WhatsApp groups, etc.).

How do student clubs contribute towards HBKU’s society?

The clubs aim to help HBKU students in particular and the HBKU community at large. The collective student body aims to become the link between the HBKU administration, faculty, staff, and students.

What type of activities are organized by the clubs?

Clubs create events tailored to and based on the students’ needs and wants.

Can HBKU alumni join student clubs?

The student engagement clubs are for current students. However alumni can join our Alumni Student Clubs.

What are the responsibilities of the clubadvisor?

The advisor is responsible for managing all actions and approvals.

Can a student club have a fundraiser?

Yes, if the purpose is approved by the management.

How do I reserve a space on campus for a meeting or an event?

Space reservation is made through the student engagement office staff.

How do I reserve audio/visual equipment for meetings or events?

Through the student engagement office staff.

Can we sell food or any other items during events?

Yes, you can, if it’s approved by the management.

Can members participate in arranging the events of the clubs?

Yes

Once I have joined a student club, what do I do next?

Each member has a role in activating the student club.

What sports teams does HBKU have?

Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, Men’s Football Team, Men’s Volleyball Team, and Cricket Team.

Every year we announce new teams according to the registration stats.

Do I need to know how to play in order to join an HBKU sport team?

Yes, you need to have some background on how to play your chosen game. The team coach will evaluate your performance upon registration.

Does HBKU provide a coach to train the team?

Yes, the university works hard to provide highly qualified trainers.

Where is the office of HBKU sports and recreation section located?

Our office is located in the Minaretein building, Ground Floor, Office A 017.

How can I register and join HBKU sport teams?

The Sport and Recreation Department opens the registration every year at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. If you missed the registration, you can contact the department’s Recreation Supervisor:walsoud@hbku.edu.qa  or visit the offices.

What is the time commitment? Will it affect my studies?

The time of the training sessions are agreed between the coach and the team members. Usually, training starts in the evenings after classes.

Can I join more than one team?

If your academic schedule allows, you can participate in more than one team.

Is the audience for female team games mixed or female only?

Leagues including football, volleyball, basketball, and badminton will only be open for females.

Can we have designated lockers near the courts?

Yes, depending on the availability of lockers. You will need to coordinate with the HBKU Recreation Supervisor.

Will HBKU provide the required equipment and jerseys for games?

HBKU Sport and Recreation Department is responsible for providing the required equipment and jerseys for all players for both their training and games. The team coach or the team captain should share all the team requirements with the Recreation Supervisor

Do we have insurance in case of any injuries while playing?

Currently, the university is working on providing health insurance that will cover sporting injuries.

What kind of fitness classes does Qatar Foundation organize?

What are the sports facilities that can be used in Qatar Foundation? And what are their operating hours?

A. Multaqa Indoor Facilities:

What is the Student Employment Portal?

It is a program which allows students to gain work experience while studying

How can I benefit from SA services as a student/alumni?

A range of career development workshops and internship opportunities are available to HBKU students to help them enhance their career performance and skills. The office is open throughout the year to support students with CV writing,reviewing, and interview preparations.

What are community classes, and how can I register?

Community classes are non-academic courses with certified trainers. They cover a variety of topics and are conducted within each  semester. You can register as soon as the courses are announced at the beginning of each semester

How can we learn about the available workshops and community classes?

Student Affairs  regularly send emails to all students and alumni with information regarding the workshops and classes.\ Workshops and classes are also advertised through our social media channels.

Is there a fee for the workshops, or are they free?

HBKU students get a 50% discount on the cost of  community classes. However, we do offer the student workshops for free

Is there a particular schedule for the workshops?

The classes and student workshops are held every semester around October, February, and March

Will I receive a participation certificate when I join a workshop?

Yes, you will

Are the offered workshops academic or non-academic?

Workshops are usually academic, offering soft skills development

Can I offer a workshop to students?

Students can join and attend the workshops, its open for all

Do you schedule the workshops during weekdays or weekends?

Workshops are sometimes offered during weekends, as well as weekdays

How can I register as an HBKU alumni?

Do you issue any alumni cards?

The alumni cards are issued by Qatar Foundation. Once finalized, alumni will receive an update for collection

Will I still be invited to participate in the Student Engagement Office and Student Affairs activities after I graduate from HBKU?

Yes, we do have some events and programs that are open to alumni, which are usually announced through the HBKU Alumni Office.
