## Undergraduate writing, communication and multimedia (WCM) support

The Undergraduate unit of UWrite supports engineering students through all forms of technical and academic communication. The unit offers a collaborative space where students can think through ideas, get feedback, and revise with confidence as they work on their technical writing (lab reports, technical reports), and digital and multimodal communication (presentations, posters, e-portfolios, and project websites).

The Peer Writing Consultants, who are engineering students themselves, meet with students one-on-one at any stage of the process. They help with brainstorming, organizing data and visuals, clarifying technical explanations, strengthening multimodal design choices, and more. Through regular training and professional development, consultants are prepared to support multilingual writers on discipline-specific genres and a wide range of communication projects.

## What you can expect from your WCM session

Writing is a multifaceted intellectual process that involves serious thinking, planning, drafting,
reviewing, and revising. Your active involvement in a consultation is therefore crucial to growing
as a writer while producing high-quality work. When you come to your consultation session, keep in
mind that:

- Your WCM assignments/projects need time, so plan ahead of time and schedule an appointment with
your consultant early on in the writing process.
- Your WCM assignments/projects involve multiple drafts, so be ready to book multiple sessions.
- Your WCM assignments/projects involve different stages of learning, so be prepared to actively
ask questions and engage. Remember, your WCM consultants are here to support you but not to do the
  work for you.

## During your session, your consultant will

- Help you brainstorm and shape your ideas according to your assignment rubrics.
- Offer constructive feedback on content (tone and language), structure, organization, and flow of ideas in your writing.
- Guide you on citations and references as outlined in the assignment rubric.
- Provide technical support for presentation slides, posters, and e-portfolios.
- Share practical tools and tips for writing, communication, and multimedia assignments.

## Class Visits [Faculty Only]

We are happy to pay a visit to your class and introduce our services to your students. Our class
visits are designed in such a way that they do not take more than 10 minutes of your lecture time.
During these 10 minutes, students will be briefed about how to navigate WCOnline, our scheduling
platform, for booking sessions. Should you need a class visit, please use this [Class Visit Request Form](https://hbku.wufoo.com/forms/z95w1e911acvsa/).
