About Us

The UJ Faculty of Law offers traditional law programmes such as BA Law, BCom Law and LLB, as well as LLM degrees by dissertation and coursework and LLD degrees in various important fields.

Departments

The Faculty of Law at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is home to dynamic departments that offer a well-rounded legal education, combining academic excellence with practical skills.

Research

Research at the UJ Faculty of Law is driven by a commitment to advancing legal scholarship that is both impactful and socially responsive.

Law Clinic

The UJ Law Clinic, located at three campuses of the University of Johannesburg and recently at UJ on Stanley, offers free legal services to underprivileged individuals and communities, reinforcing the Faculty’s commitment to access to justice and social responsibility.

Moot Court

The UJ Law Moot Court is a state-of-the-art simulated courtroom where students participate in mock trials, legal arguments, and debates. It offers a dynamic, experiential learning environment that sharpens advocacy, legal reasoning and public speaking skills.

Contact Us

The UJ Faculty of Law is led by the Executive Dean, supported by two Vice Deans and HoD’s (making up the Dean’s Committee) overseeing Research, Teaching, and Programme Delivery.

More About Us

The Faculty of Law is recognised nationally and internationally for its leading scholarship, innovative teaching, and meaningful community impact. This standing was reaffirmed in the latest Times Higher Education subject rankings, where UJ Law was placed among the top 150 law schools globally and ranked second in South Africa.

Our academics are respected experts in their fields, and our students and alumni continue to distinguish themselves in the legal profession, public service, and related sectors. Through our active research centres, the Law Clinic, and a strong commitment to social justice, we harness the law as a powerful instrument for transformation and societal change.

In 2026, the UJ Law Clinic proudly celebrates 45 years of impactful service to communities, reflecting the Faculty’s enduring commitment to access to justice. Complementing this is the re-establishment of the Student Law Council, which strengthens student leadership, representation, and meaningful engagement within the Faculty.
