The Department of Civil Engineering Science has undergone substantial growth, establishing itself as one of the greatest in South Africa. It comprises a team of dedicated staff actively engaged in both academic and research. We take pride in maintaining strong connections with industry and professional associations, ensuring that students gain practical and relevant insights throughout their academic journey. Undergraduate students benefit from hands-on training and expertise in our advanced laboratories, which are equipped with excellent facilities.

The academic focus of Civil Engineering Science encompasses key areas such as structural engineering, water engineering, transportation engineering, and geotechnical engineering. The Department offers the Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, a degree fully accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), a coursework-based Master’s in Structural Engineering, as well as research-oriented MEng and PhD programs that allow for specialisation in various sub-disciplines of civil engineering. These programs have been meticulously designed to equip students with the requisite skills and knowledge to excel in the diverse and dynamic field of civil engineering
