Top rankings in FinTech research: In the current bibliometric analysis "Financial technology (Fintech) research trend: a bibliometric analysis" by the authors Jafri et al. (2025), the papers by Prof. Peter Gomber, Chair of e-Finance at Goethe-University, and his co-authors "On the Fintech Revolution: Interpreting the Forces of Innovation, Disruption, and Transformation in Financial Services", published in: Journal of Management Information Systems (2018) took first place and "Digital Finance and FinTech: current research and future research directions", published in the Journal of Business Economics (2017) took third place. This study identified the most frequently cited papers in fintech research from 1986 to 2024.
Co-authors were: Prof. Robert J. Kauffman (Copenhagen Business School), Prof. Chris Parker (Darden Business School) as well as Dean Prof. Bruce Weber (Zicklin School of Business, City University of New York), Michael Siering (DZ Bank and Adjunct Professor, Goethe University) and Jun.-Prof. Jascha-Alexander Koch (University of Siegen).
The research topics Fintech and Digital Finance describe and analyse the digitalization of the financial industry. This includes a magnitude of new digital financial products, financial businesses, finance-related software, and novel forms of customer communication and interaction that are provided by FinTech companies and innovative financial service providers.
