Japanese

Students can complete the Japanese courses and through that will acquire additional language competence skills.

The program consists of 4 courses. The Introduction course is aimed at beginners with no previous knowledge of Japanese. After completing the complete program, Level A2 in speaking Japanese should be reached.

This introductory course Japanese 1 is the first of the four courses in the program. It is a necessary prerequisite for the advanced course Japanese 2.

Previous knowledge\ No previous knowledge is required for this module.

Course content\ The aim of this course is to acquire knowledge in the following areas.

The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20.

Topics\ Unit 1 – Japanese scripts: hiragana and katakana \ Unit 2 – Greetings\ Unit 3 – Introductions                \ Unit 4 – About the family\ Unit 5 – Introduction to the geography, history and institutions of Japan

Course fees and dates\ WJP1 Japanese 1 (13 double lessons, incl. final exam): 90 Euro. Dates and Rooms: See LSF. This course only takes place in the winter semester.

This advanced course has the target level A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Previous knowledge\ Knowledge of the content of the Japanese 1 (WJP1) module is an essential requirement to take this course. There is the possibility to enter the program with some current knowledge of Japanese.

Course content\ The aim of this course is to consolidate what was learned in the WJP1 course.

This course continues with the textbook "Marugoto: Japanese language and culture". In the semester, all Hiragana and Katakana will be studied, as well as some Kanji. Students should be able to hold a simple conversation in Japanese by the end of the semester. Topics related to the Japanese language will be studied in more depth. In addition, a 2-day workshop on intercultural communication in a business context is planned and active participation in discussions and submission of worksheets is required.

The reading and writing aspects of the course are tested in a 90-minute written examination during the last week of the semester. A graded certificate is awarded to those who pass the exam.

The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20.

This advanced course has the target level A1.2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Previous knowledge\ Knowledge of the content of the Japanese 1 and 2 (WJP1 and 2) module is an essential requirement to take this course. There is the possibility to enter the program with some current knowledge of Japanese.

Course content\ The aim of this course is to deepen the knowledge of WJP 1 and 2.

You will continue working with the textbook "Marugoto: Japanese language and culture" from lesson 10 onwards. By the end of the semester, students will be able to read and write all Hiragana and Katakana and read some Kanji. Students will be able to have simple conversations in Japanese by the end of the course. We will also use additional material so that you can have deeper conversations that can be immediately used in Japan. We will also read short Japanese stories. Through the course you will also learn about topics related to everyday life in Japan.

Reading comprehension and writing skills will be tested in the form of a 90-minute written exam and oral exam during the last week of lectures. A graded certificate is awarded to those who pass the exam.

This course is level A2.1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Previous knowledge\ Knowledge of the content of the modules Japanese 1, 2 and 3 (WJP1, 2 and 3) is an essential requirement for taking this course. Reading and writing all Hiragana and Katakana, as well as the Kanji that appear in Marugoto A1, is essential. There is the possibility to enter the program with some current knowledge of Japanese.

Course content\ The aim of this course is to deepen the knowledge gained in Japanese 1, 2 and 3.

You will continue to learn with the textbook “Marugoto: Japanese language and culture” from A2 lesson 1. Since you can already read and write Japanese with the hiragana, katakana and  kanji you learned in A1, this skill will be further developed in this course. In this course, you will learn more verb forms such as the te-form or the informal form, so that you will have more options for using different expressions. After the course, students will be able to hold simple conversations in Japanese. The trainer always makes sure that the students not only learn the words from the textbook, but also learn words related to themselves, so that they can talk and write about themselves. Through the course you will also learn about topics related to everyday life in Japan.
