The aims of these courses are:
- to provide students with communicative and intercultural foreign language skills
- to brush up and perfect their existing knowledge of English
- to gain an insight into general aspects of the economy in English speaking countries
We offer three levels:
1 – Foundation
2 – Keystone
3 – Higher
The level Foundation consists of the course 1A. All Foundation courses have the same target level (B1.2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and have exactly the same content. They are suitable for students who have no knowledge or very little knowledge of economic English.
Previous knowledge\ Completion of level A2/B1 (CEFR) or 26 – 40 points in the placement test.
Placement test\ We recommend that you take the placement test before enrolling to ensure that you are placed in the right course. Here is the placement test for English.
Course content\ In the Business English Foundation course you will learn vocabulary and expressions specifically for the business world. A variety of exercises are also specifically designed to promote linguistic and conceptual understanding of current topics and to lay the foundation for discussions and written exercises on various business topics. The reading and writing aspects of the course are tested in a 90-minute written examination during the last week of the semester. A graded certificate is awarded to those who pass the exam.
The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20 in all courses.
Topics\ Unit 1 – What is economics?\ Unit 2 – Economic indicators\ Unit 3 – The business cycle\ Unit 4 – Retail banking\ Unit 5 – Retailing
Course material\ All the students in the Business language programme will receive the course material with specially designed exercises and a variety of selected economic texts.

The level Keystone consists of the parallel courses WE2A – WE2E. All Keystone courses are of the same target level (level B2.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and have exactly the same content. They are suitable for students who already possess some knowledge of economic English.
Previous knowledge\ Completion of level B1 (CEFR) or 41 – 60 points in the placement test.
