# Chinese

The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration along with the conceptual support and guidance from the Sinology Faculty offers Business Chinese courses.The program consists of 4 courses. The Introduction course is aimed at beginners with no previous knowledge of Chinese. The program includes Levels A1 (Chinese for Beginners) and A2 (Business Chinese), according to the Common European Framework of References for Languages ([CEFR](https://www.coe.int/en/web/common-european-framework-reference-languages)). After completing the whole program, Level A2 in spoken Chinese should be reached.

The Chinese for Beginners 1 course is the first part of a suite of two beginner courses and is a requirement for attending the Chinese for Beginner’s 2 course.

**Previous knowledge**\
No previous knowledge of Chinese is necessary for this module.

**Course content**\
The aim of this course is to acquire the appropriate basic technical vocabulary for this level and to consolidate the basic structures of the Chinese language. Upon completion of this course, you should be able to understand and converse in simple dialogue in Chinese and to master typical everyday situations as well as tourist and business-related stays in China. You will acquire linguistic and cross-cultural knowledge, which is necessary in the area of Chinese-German economic relations. The reading and writing aspects of the course are tested in a 90-minute written examination during the last week of the semester. A graded certificate is awarded to those who pass the exam.

The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 20.

This beginner’s course has the target level A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ([CEFR](https://www.coe.int/en/web/common-european-framework-reference-languages)).

**Previous knowledge**\
In order to participate in this module, Chinese for Beginners 1 is required. There is a possibility to attend this course, however, if you have some previous knowledge of Chinese.

**Course content**\

Business Chinese 1 has the target level A2.1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ([CEFR](https://www.coe.int/en/web/common-european-framework-reference-languages)).

**Previous knowledge**\
Knowledge of spoken Chinese based on the vocabulary lists of the officially recognised examination of language register HSK Level I is required. Passive recognition of approx. 50 characters is necessary for this course.

**Course content**\
The business-related linguistic competence will be gradually expanded. The focus on oral communicative competence is a main focus of this course. This will enable students to engage in simple dialogues about topics relating to Chinese-German Economic relations and international trade which can be used in the office, at visits to trade fairs, business dinners, reception of Chinese economic delegations, etc. Participants will acquire the basic knowledge of the Chinese characters and the usage of character-based text programs (Lexika, etc.) to compose texts using Chinese characters.  The acquired language skills are tested in a 90-minute written examination in the last week of the semester. A graded certificate is awarded to those who pass the exam.

**Previous knowledge**\

Knowledge of Chinese characters based on HSK Level I. Passive recognition of approx. 100 characters.
