Values & Objectives

Vision

We have set our sights on a place amongst Europe’s top universities. Moving forward, our shared and individual successes will continue to be built on independent, leading-edge research, outstanding academic personnel, and talented students. We strive toward making an impact on the political and economic spheres and are commited to being a proactive partner in our field.

Mission

Leading-edge research: Our Faculty delivers internationally recognized research at the highest level. Our commitment to supporting and developing the next generation of academics is targeted at leading-edge research, as is our appointment of new professorial staff.

Excellence in study programs: Through diverse programs of study, delivered in modern and cosmopolitan formats, we prepare students for national and international careers. We focus on combining research-oriented methodological expertise with application-oriented knowledge, empowered by close connections to real-world practice. Our campus - one of the most attractive in Europe - offers a stimulating learning environment.

Tradition and outreach: Having our origins as one of Germany’s first economics faculties, today we are among the largest faculties in the country, integrating a comprehensive spectrum of business and economics programs. Through collaboration with companies, institutions and the wider Frankfurt community, we contribute to the development of innovative solutions that have a global impact. We promote the exchange of knowledge and cultures to address global challenges through local expertise. Our students benefit from a network that is deeply rooted in the Rhine-Main area and at the same time opens up international perspectives.

Diversity and internationalization: We foster a diverse and inclusive academic community in which cultural and international perspectives are central. We strive to bring together students and researchers from different backgrounds to develop innovative solutions for local and global economic challenges. An international approach to research and teaching is a core objective of our Faculty. Accordingly, we pursue thriving and interactive relationships with our partners around the world.

Our Objectives

Locally Integrated International Education

To provide dynamic, global economic and management education to a diverse student population, capitalizing on the opportunities provided by our location in a thriving international economic and business environment.

Focused Research

To achieve the highest standard of research through close cooperation between the disciplines of economics and business with a particular focus on subfields where synergies in the economic and business environment in the Rhine-Main region are greatest.

Integrating Theory and Practice

To provide an integrated approach to learning by combining theory and research with practical experience.

Excellence in Teaching

To offer best quality teaching based on and supported by research, with an emphasis on quantitative methods, theory-led empirical research, business partnering and policy relevance.

Ethical and Social Responsibility

To enable our undergraduate and graduate students to consider ethical and social responsibility as a major issue.

Supportive Educational Environment

To provide a compassionate and intellectually stimulating learning environment through comparably small classes, faculty accessibility and teamwork.

Top Quality Students

To become more attractive to applicants so as to increase our ability to select top quality students.

Innovative Course and Degree Offering

To offer the highest quality undergraduate and graduate education degree programs that evolve with our changing economy.

Life-Long Learning

To strengthen and extend the established executive training at the post-graduate level.

Internationalization of Research and Teaching

To strengthen our international character by being recognized as one of the most interesting and relevant academic faculties in Germany for leading institutions and researchers from around the world.  Likewise, we aim to support international student exchange and link our doctoral studies to leading universities around the world.

Distinguished Scholars

To form new generations of scholars prepared to conduct distinguished research and innovative teaching – and to assume roles as university faculty, research scientists and administrators.

Relations with the Community At-Large

To work closely with the local business community, acknowledging our tradition as an academic institution founded by the citizens and business community of Frankfurt. This includes partnerships with local private enterprise, government, international organizations and non-profit institutions so as to address pressing economic and managerial problems.  We integrate the larger community into our instruction (i.e. as adjunct faculty or through exchange with students), encourage entrepreneurship and likewise communicate ideas, knowledge and experience to the community by contributing our academic and/or professional expertise.

Our Commitments

To Our Students

We seek to create an academic environment in which teaching and learning are emphasized and continually improved.  We value each student as an individual and aim to support our students from admission to coursework to professional career planning.  We devote special attention to foreign students and ensure that our programs, while specifically geared to meet the needs of our traditional students, will make certain all graduates are prepared to be competitive in the global economy.

To Our Faculty and Staff

We seek to foster the continuous professional growth of our Faculty and staff, and particularly encourage the advancement of women. We are dedicated to hiring and retaining highly qualified colleagues whose motivation and expertise support our being recognized as a center of academic excellence. We are also committed to attracting the most highly qualified new scholars, acknowledging that our research concentrations help create critical masses that induce other top-notch researchers to join.

To Our Stakeholders

We recognize our responsibility to help advance the economy of Germany’s Rhine-Main region and beyond.  As a source of intellectual, social, economic and technological advancement, we serve as a valuable asset to our region's economic development by providing first-class research, advisory and university graduates.  We also aim to disseminate our research results to the broader public through the media.

To Ourselves

We are committed to constantly monitoring progress in achieving the goals explicated in this Mission Statement.
