News on Applications for Winter Semester 2026/27

The application period for the MSc in International Economics and Economic Policy has changed.\ Applications open on January 15. The final application deadline remains May 15, 2026.\ We strongly encourage early applications.

On February 12, 2026 at 2 p.m. CET we will host an online information session about the program and application process. Please register here until February 10.

Admission and Requirements

Admission to the Master’s Program in International Economics and Economic Policy takes place on an annual basis, with the program starting in October. Applications must be submitted in due time and form. Please read the following information carefully, as incomplete applications will be excluded from the selection procedure.

Please note that the minimum requirement for admission is a bachelor’s degree. Applicants holding a master’s degree are also welcome to apply. A background in economics or business at the undergraduate or graduate level is strongly preferred; however, candidates from related disciplines with strong analytical skills will also be considered.

Application Process

You can submit your application starting January 15, 2026 via uni-assist online portal. Please note that we only accept applications submitted via the uni-assist online portal and do not review any documents sent via email. The final deadline is May 15, 2026. We strongly encourage applicants to submit their application dossier early.

At the time of application, students must have completed at least 80% of the credit points required for graduation in their program (see section Documents to Submit – Degree Certificates and Transcripts). For example, if your undergraduate degree comprises 180 ECTS, you must have completed at least 144 ECTS credits at the time of application.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Outstanding candidates will be contacted early in the process.

Please download this file during the online application process on the uni-assist platform. You can also download the form here if you want to prepare in advance. Prior to uploading the file to uni-assist, please rename the filled-in PDF inserting your full name and “MIEEP” for “masterprogram”, e.g.: “application_info_JaneDoe_MIEEP.pdf”.

Previous degree(s) including the final grade (GPA) and a transcript of records

If your final diploma has not been issued yet:\ \ • Certificate of enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program and\ \ • Preliminary diploma or transcript of records, listing all passed examinations and an average grade. This preliminary diploma or transcript of records must be issued by the same office that also issues final diplomas.\ At the time of application, as per university-wide stipulations, your transcript must show you have completed at least 80% of the credit points required for graduation from your program.\ \ • All applicants must upload official documents: the copy of your bachelor’s degree including the final GPA and the transcript of records. The same holds for your certificate of enrollment and the preliminary transcript of records if you have not yet received your final diploma. If applicable, accompanied by a certified translation into German or English (see uni-assist’s information on certifications and translations).

Motivational letter

The letter of motivation should be in English and should not exceed 750 words.

Proof of English Proficiency

We accept following proofs of English language proficiency:

Proof of those results (scan copy / pdf) must also be uploaded with your online application via uni-assist, else your scores will not be considered. Please be aware that after successful admission you must be able to provide proof of the certificate.

Notes

Waiver

If you have completed your undergraduate studies in a majority English speaking country and your Bachelor degree program’s sole language of instruction was English, you are exempted from submitting a language certificate. Please note that both conditions must be met to qualify for the exemption. Instead, please provide proof of your English proficiency by uploading a document confirming the language of instruction of your Bachelor program issued by your university. A list of majority English speaking countries can be found on the website of the UK Visas and Immigration Department.

Assessment of Quantitative Skills

Please note that the admission committee evaluates your quantitative skills based on the amount of ECTS and the respective weighted grade average of quantitative courses in your transcript of records. The admission committee decides which of the modules were sufficiently quantitative. If in doubt, please provide associated module descriptions as well. Ungraded modules cannot be considered.

Abitur Certificate (or Equivalent High School Diploma)

A simple copy of your Abitur certificate or equivalent (e.g., A-levels, high school diploma, International Baccalaureate). This document proves that you have completed your secondary education and are allowed to study at a university in general.

APS certificate for Applicants from Vietnam, China and India

Applicants from the People's Republic of China, Vietnam, and India need to submit the original APS certificate.

Additional Supporting Documents (Optional)

You may include other documents to support your application, such as a curriculum vitae, letters of recommendation, references from previous employment or internships, or proof of scholarships awarded.
