Faculty

AACSB

On January 7, 2005, and as one of the first in Germany, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Goethe University Frankfurt received the coveted seal of approval of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Successful re-accreditations followed in 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025.

The award of this distinction is preceded by a qualification phase lasting several years, during which the applicant must demonstrate adherence to a number of comprehensive accreditation standards as part of an internal self-evaluation and external peer review procedure. These include, for example, a clear performance record in the areas of strategic management and teaching/learning methods. Equally important is the involvement of students and teaching staff in the faculty’s processes. Also prescribed are detailed descriptions of the curricula. In addition, further offers and services for students as useful supplements to their learning process are among the requirements for AACSB accreditation. The faculty must implement the requirements on its own initiative and in respect of the university’s individual profile. To ensure and further develop high academic quality, re-accreditation is conducted every five years.

More than 1,000 educational institutions in over 60 countries are currently registered with AACSB (click here for further details). So far, only 13 universities in Germany have been able to meet the high AACSB requirements and standards (click here for the list).

You can find further information on the AACSB website.

Assurance of Learning

In AACSB terminology, Assurance of Learning (AoL) denotes the monitoring of skills acquisition by our students. To this end, the program directors have defined learning objectives that reflect program-specific skills. Our students should have acquired these skills by the end of their degree.

The AoL process is based on three key questions:

  1. What skills and competencies should our students have acquired by the end of their degree program?
  2. How do we ensure that our students are able to acquire these skills and competencies?
  3. How do we check whether our students have acquired these skills and competencies?

The aim of the procedure is to quantify skills acquisition and in so doing obtain evidence of our students’ capabilities. Beyond that, it is also a source of valuable information regarding the extent to which existing programs need to be revised in order to continuously improve skills acquisition.

Other Accreditations

Alongside AACSB accreditation, the accreditation of the faculty’s degree programs, conducted in the context of the institutional accreditation of Goethe University Frankfurt by ACQUIN, also demonstrates the excellence of our study and teaching portfolio. Another key element of quality assurance is the faculty’s adherence to the principles of the PRME initiative, of which it is one of the founding members.
