NYCU provides scholarship opportunities for international students pursuing degrees.

Who is Eligible
Current students who have not received scholarships or grants from the Taiwan government and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 for graduate students and 3.0 for undergraduate students are eligible.

Details and Information
Scholarship and Admission
Refer to the website of Academia Sinica
The program is established by the National Science and Technology Council (hereinafter referred to as NSTC), aiming to build a solid foundation of research talents and reserve talents for core strategic industries. The program awards outstanding Ph.D. students who have demonstrated their potential for significant research contributions and supports them to pursue full-time doctoral degree.

Eligibility Recipients:
New first-year doctoral students who enroll and begin their studies in February or September of the following year when the NSTC announces the application.

Qualifications: 
The following individuals are not eligible to receive this fellowship:

a. Those who are engaged in full-time paid employment in public or private sectors or who apply for admission as part-time students possessing responsibilities related to employment.
b. Students with statuses from Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China.
c. Those who have applied for leave of absence and retained their admission eligibility or have not completed registration after admission.
d. Those who are concurrently in receipt of scholarship or subsidy offered by the ROC government.

Scholarship Amount and Duration:
Monthly stipend of NT$40,000 for a period of up to 3 years, starting from the first year of the Ph.D. program. Stipend for those who graduate less than three years shall last until the month of graduation.

Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Scholarship Program.

Eligibility Recipients
  1. Be a citizen of a country on the List of Countries Eligible for TaiwanICDF Scholarship, and satisfy any specific criteria established by his or her country and/or government of citizenship.
  2. Neither be a national of the Republic of China (Taiwan) nor an overseas compatriot student.
  3. Satisfy the admission requirements of the partner university to which he or she has applied to study under a TaiwanICDF scholarship.
  4. Be able to satisfy all requirements for a Resident Visa (Code: FS) set by the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) set by the Ministry of the Interior, of the ROC (Taiwan) government (this means that the TaiwanICDF has the right to revoke a scholarship offered if an applicant cannot satisfy the visa requirements).
  5. Upon accepting a TaiwanICDF scholarship, not hold any other ROC (Taiwan) government-sponsored scholarship (such as the Taiwan Scholarship) in the same academic year in which the TaiwanICDF scholarship would be due to commence.
  6. Have never had any scholarship revoked by any ROC (Taiwan) government agency or related institution, nor been expelled from any Taiwanese university.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) created the Elite Scholarship Program in order to encourage lecturers from countries in South and Southeast, as well as Africa, to pursue a graduate degree in Taiwan.

Purpose
To encourage students to actively participate in activities related to international student associations or other on-campus public services, thereby enhancing campus internationalization, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University has established these guidelines.

Eligibility
Students of NYCU who participated in international student-related associations or other on-campus public services in the previous academic year that have significantly contributed to campus internationalization and have demonstrated outstanding performance.

Application Procedure
(1) Application Period:  Announcement will be made at the beginning of each academic year's first semester.
(2) Application Materials:
(a) Application form (see attachment)
(b) Certificate of enrollment
(c) Records of participation in international student-related associations or other on-campus public services that enhance campus internationalization during the previous academic year
(d) Conduct score certificate
 
(3) Submission Method: Submit either in paper or electronic form. Paper submissions should be delivered to Ms. Sindy Chen at the 2nd Division of Overseas Student Affairs. For Electronic submissions, please combine all documents into a single PDF file and email it to chuanmel@nycu.edu.tw. Please ensure all documents are complete before submission.
 
Review Criteria
(1) Promotion of campus internationalization (40%)
(2) Assistance in the guidance of international students (40%)
(3) Other public services (20%)

Review Procedure
The evaluations will be conducted by the review committee formed by the Office of International Affairs.

Award Details
(1) Number of Awardees: 1 to 10 awardees per academic year, based on the review committee's evaluation results.
(2) Amount: NT$3,000 for each awardee.
(3) Award Presentation: Awards will be publicly presented at international student events during the academic year as a form of encouragement.

These guidelines shall be implemented following approval by the Office of International Affairs meeting and shall be subject to the same procedure for any amendments.

The following situations are not eligible for the NYCU scholarship:

For example, current NYCU scholarship recipients whose award duration includes the 2025 Fall semester, Taiwan Scholarships, ESP Scholarship, UST Scholarship, TIGP Scholarship, NSNT Scholarship, ICDF Scholarship, NYCU Elite Ph.D., a scholarship sponsored by the government of your home country…. etc.).
(2) Students holding a working VISA/ARC.

  1. Important Notes
    1. The scholarship result will be announced by email to applicants in late June, 2025.
    2. OIA will check your documents after your submission.
    3. OIA will send notices to applicants if your application is not completed. You are not able to revise your application after submission. Your application won’t be considered if your application is incomplete.
    4. Meeting the minimum grade requirement listed in scholarship regulation is one of the requirements to be eligible to apply for the scholarship. However, it doesn’t mean that you are guaranteed to get a scholarship award. All scholarship award allocation is subject to the annual budget condition, the number of applicants and so on. All qualified applications will be reviewed by the committees of departments /colleges/ the university. OIA has no right to change the award.
    5. Match-funding Policy for Graduate Program Students.Match-funding from the research advisor, department/institute, or college is compulsory for the post-graduate student scholarship award. This policy applies to the current student award applications in principle.
    6. The requirement for Chinese Courses for NYCU scholarship recipients. NYCU scholarship applicants and recipients need to take Chinese courses (see scholarship regulation Article 5 Item 2).
