Our student dragon boat team, the "NYCU Dragon Riders," participated in the "Hsinchu City Dragon Boat Competition" held at Nanliao Harbor and won third place in the Global Village category! The team members come from various countries, including Ukraine, Russia, Honduras, Italy, India, Germany, France, and Egypt, totaling 19 people. This event allowed the international students to deeply experience Taiwan's unique Dragon Boat Festival culture and learn about the stories and cultural significance of the Dragon Boat Festival.

The students admired the lively scenes of the fishing port and experienced the atmosphere of the fishermen’s lifestyle at Zhengbin Fishing Harbor. At Shifen Old Street, everyone deeply participated in the sky lantern activity, which allowed everyone to feel the rich historical features and unique local cultural charm of northern Taiwan.

By visiting the town of Lukang, we gained an in-depth understanding of the religious beliefs and cultural history of the immigrants from the Ming and Qing dynasties in Taiwan. Additionally, we arranged a visit to the "Taiwan Lion Craftsman," where we experienced and learned about Taiwanese lion culture through DIY lion head painting.

The students had a fantastic time in Daxi, a charming town famed for its old street culture and spinning-top craftsmanship. During our visit, everyone had the opportunity to immerse themselves in spinning-top culture by painting their own tops and competing in a spirited contest. Additionally, we explored the rich local history and lifestyle by strolling through Daxi Old Street and visiting the Wood Art Ecomuseum.

“International Day” is an annual event that has been taken place on Chiao Tung campus since 1996. The purpose of the event is to promote cultural exchange and interaction between local and international students to reach the goal of an inclusive and diverse campus.

This year, the Office of International Affairs gathers international students from both campuses to join “International Day” at Chiao Tung campus to promote integration, interaction and cooperation among international student community.

“International Day” will be held on February 24 with 12 international students’ booths led by students from the following countries, regions and student organizations: India, Indonesia, Sweden, Republic of the Philippines, Kingdom of Eswatini, Belize, Mainland China Student Association, Overseas Chinese Student Association, International Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association and Muslim Student Club. On the event day, students will wear their traditional costumes, sell traditional food and cultural artifacts from their countries.

We explored Shifen Waterfall Park and the enchanting Shifen Old Street, immersing ourselves in the cultural richness of Taiwan's sky lantern traditions. Additionally, we visited the magnificent Shen’Ao Elephant Trunk Rock, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of Taiwan's northern coast.
