1964 Department of Electrophysics established – under the Graduate Institute of Electronics
1967 The Graduate Institute of Electronics reorganized into the College of Engineering: Department of Electrophysics under the College of Engineering - 1970s
1972 Department of Applied Mathematics established – under the College of Engineering
1977 Graduate Institute of Applied Mathematics established its Master's program – under the College of Engineering

- National Chiao Tung University reinstated as a university, College of Science established
- Department of Electrophysics transferred to the College of Science – Bachelor's students still awarded a Bachelor of Engineering degree
- Department of Applied Mathematics transferred to the College of Science (moved from the Bo-Ai Campus to Management Building 1 on the Guangfu Campus)

- Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering established – under the Department of Electrophysics
- Department of Computer Science established

1982 Graduate Institute of Applied Chemistry established (New Student Dormitory)

- Science Building 1 completed and opened
- Department of Electrophysics (including the Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering) moved into Science Building 1
1984 Department and Graduate Institute of Applied Mathematics merged, moved into Science Building 1, Doctoral program in Applied Mathematics established
1988 Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering became an independent institute
