The Water Safety Program is a FREE aquatics education initiative available to University of Melbourne students.

The program was created for students who have not previously had the opportunity to learn to swim, lack water confidence or would like to develop survival and basic formal swimming stroke knowledge and technique.

Over a 5-week period each semester, consisting of one 30-minute lesson per week, students will be taught the necessary water safety, stroke and survival skills for safe and enjoyable participation in water-based social activities at the pool and beach.

Students are encouraged to make use of their free pool membership to continue practising these skills during the Uni break, before re-enrolling in the Water Safety Program the following semester to further progress their swimming technique and endurance under the guidance of their teacher.

Being a low impact, full-body workout, swimming also has many physical and mental health benefits including increased wellbeing.
