Sessions 2023-2028
- 184th session, March 13, 2026\ The University Board approved investments in the physical infrastructure in the field of natural sciences. Among other things, the Rectorate reported on the development of current student numbers. The University Board discussed the activity report of the Equal Opportunities Working Party and adopted the report on its own activities in 2025.
- 183rd session, December 19, 2025\ The University Board commented on an amendment to the 2025-2027 performance agreement regarding a budget transfer for research funding from the universities. Furthermore, the University Board approved investments in spatial and technical infrastructure and nominated another substitute member for the Ethics Commission.
- 182nd session, November 10, 2025\ The Rectorate reports to the University Board on the University of Vienna's first-ever placement in the top 100 of the THE ranking. For the University Board, this outstanding ranking is the result of years of strategic focus on excellence and internationality in research, teaching, and organization. The University Board approves the 2026 budget estimate and numerous investments in the university's technical and structural infrastructure.
- 181st session, September 26, 2025\ The University Board approved investments in the first phase of the project “University of Vienna Rainforest – La Gamba Tropical Station” and in digital infrastructure. The Rectorate reported to the University Board on, among other things, current fundraising activities at the University of Vienna, the 2025 entrance exam procedure/aptitude assessment, and new research successes at the University of Vienna.
- 180th session, June 27, 2025\ In addition to the regular financial report, the University Board discussed, among other things, the current research successes of the University of Vienna. Furthermore, the University Board approved numerous investments in connection with appointments.
- 179th session, May 19, 2025\ In accordance with Section 23b (1) of the 2002 Universities Act, the University Board decided to reappoint Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schütze as Rector of the University of Vienna for the term of office from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2030. Furthermore, the University Board approved the 2024 financial statements, the 2024 corporate governance report, and the 2024 intellectual capital report.
- 178th session, March 7, 2025\ The University Board approved an amendment to the organizational plan and several investments in the building infrastructure. Furthermore, the University Board approved the establishment of the Austrian Science Communication Center companies. Among other things, the Rectorate reported on the development of student numbers and the current image analysis. The University Board discussed the activity report of the Equal Opportunities Working Party 2024 and approved the report on its own activities in 2024.
- 177th session, December 20, 2024\ The University Board approved investments in the building infrastructure. Furthermore, the Rectorate reported to the University Board on the planned implementation of the 2025-2027 performance agreement, including the new design of core facilities from 2025 onwards.
- 176th session, November 22, 2024\ In accordance with Section 21 (1) (15) of the 2002 Universities Act, the University Board commented on the initialed result of the performance agreement 2025-2027 and expressly welcomed the outcome of the negotiations. Furthermore, the University Board approved the 2025 budget estimate and numerous investments.
- 175th session, September 27, 2024\ The Rectorate informed the University Board about the status of negotiations on the 2025-27 performance agreement with the Republic of Austria. The University Board also approved construction projects and discussed the current development of student numbers.
- 174th session, June 28, 2024\ The University Board dealt with financial issues and investment and construction projects, among other things, and decided on the nominations for the next term of office of the Arbitration Commission.
- 173rd session, April 26, 2024\ The University Board approved the draft performance agreement with the Republic of Austria for 2025-2027, as well as the 2023 financial statements, the 2023 corporate governance report, and the 2023 intellectual capital report. The University Board also approved an amendment to the organizational plan.
- 172nd session, March 15, 2024\ The Rectorate reported to the University Board on, among other things, the development of student numbers and the current digitization strategy. The University Board also nominated candidates for the next term of office of the Scientific Advisory Board. The University Board discussed the activity report of the Equal Opportunities Working Party 2023 and approved the report on its activities in 2023.
- 171st session, December 15, 2023\ Following approval by the Senate, the University Board approved the development plan “University of Vienna 2031” and an amendment to the organizational plan. The University Board also approved the 2024 budget estimate and numerous investments, particularly in physical and digital infrastructure.
- 170th session, November 3, 2023\ The University Board discussed the Rectorate's draft of the “University of Vienna 2031” development plan in detail. It also dealt with financial issues.\ The University Board made the following statement on current global political events, in particular the anti-Semitic graffiti on the Campus of the University of Vienna: "The University Board condemns the terrorist attack on Israel. The University Board is appalled by the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic slogans that were spray-painted on the walls of the Campus of the University of Vienna last weekend and condemns them in the strongest possible terms. The University Board has taken note with great approval of the statement issued by the Rectorate and the joint statement issued by the deans of the Faculty of Protestant Theology and the Faculty of Catholic Theology and the director of the Department of Islamic-Theological Studies on October 31, 2023. The university is a place of freedom and dialogue that must not be misused as a space for hatred and support for terrorism."
- 169th session, September 29, 2023\ The Rectorate reports to the University Board on the encouraging development of the University of Vienna in various rankings, the doctoral schools, and the library renovation in the main building.
- 168th session, June 30, 2023\ In addition to the regular financial report, the University Board discussed a construction project in the field of physics. The Rectorate reports to the University Board on the current status of the 2023 entrance exam procedures and on the research successes of the University of Vienna.
- 167th session, May 26, 2023\ The University Board approved the 2022 financial statements and the 2022 intellectual capital report. The University Board also approved the 2022 corporate governance report, among other things.
- 166th session, March 31, 2023\ The University Board discussed its internal organization and working methods. Furthermore, the University Board issued new rules of procedure and adopted new remuneration regulations.

- 163rd session, January 27, 2023\ The University Board discussed the 2022 activity report of the Equal Opportunities Working Party and approved the report on its activities in 2022 (PDF). The Rectorate reported to the University Board on, among other things, the development of student numbers and the current discussion on the teacher education programme. The University Board also discussed the University of Vienna's Quality Audit 2022, among other things.
- 162nd session, December 16, 2022\ The University Board approves the 2023 budget estimate and authorizes numerous investments in digital and spatial infrastructure.
- 161st session, November 18, 2022\ The University Board elects a Vice-Rector for the period from January 1, 2023, to September 30, 2026. The University Board also discusses the roadmap to climate neutrality, research performance, and examination activity at the University of Vienna, among other topics.
- 160th session, September 23, 2022\ The University Board approves the Rules of Procedure of the Rectorate and elects a Vice Rector for the period from October 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022. The University Board also deals with financial issues and cost and performance accounting, among other things.
- 159th session, July 1, 2022\ The University Board elects the Vice-Rectors for the Rectorate's term of office from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2026. The University Board also discussed construction projects and nominated candidates for the next term of office of the Arbitration Commission and the Ethics Commission. The Rectorate reports to the University Board on the interim results of the Covid Learnings think tank.
- 158th session, May 20, 2022\ The University Board approved the 2021 financial statements and the 2021 intellectual capital report. The University Board also approved the 2021 Corporate Governance Report, among other things.
- 157th session, April 30, 2022\ In accordance with Section 21 (1) (4) of the 2002 Universities Act, the University Board elected Univ.-Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schütze from the Senate's three-person shortlist as Rector of the University of Vienna for the term of office from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2026.
- 156th session, March 25, 2022\ The University Board discussed the first amendment to the performance agreement and approved investments in the physical infrastructure. The Rectorate reported to the University Board on the current situation in relation to Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic. The University Board also discussed, among other things, the further development of the overhead regulation and structural changes in connection with the construction of a book storage facility.
- 155th session, January 28, 2022\ The University Board discussed the 2021 activity report of the Equal Opportunities Working Party and approved the report on its activities in 2021 (PDF). The Rectorate reported to the University Board on the current situation in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The University Board also discussed issues relating to teaching and studies, as well as the university's international partnerships.
- 154th session, December 17, 2021\ The Rectorate reported to the University Board on the current measures in connection with the COVID pandemic. The University Board also discussed the 2022 Quality Audit and research data management at the University of Vienna, among other things.
- 153rd session, November 12, 2021\ The Rectorate reported to the University Board on the current situation in connection with the COVID pandemic. The University Board approved the 2022 budget estimate and numerous investments, particularly in physical and digital infrastructure.\ The University Board approved the call for applications for the election of the professor and appointed Prof. Dr. Dr.h.c. Barbara Dauner-Lieb to the selection committee.
- 152nd session, October 1, 2021\ In accordance with Section 21 (1) (15) of the 2002 Universities Act, the University Board commented on the initialed results of the 2022-2024 performance agreement and recommended that the Rectorate conclude it. The Rectorate also reported to the University Board on the measures planned in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic for the current winter semester.
- 151st session, June 25, 2021\ The Rectorate reported to the University Board on the current situation in connection with the COVID pandemic and provided an outlook for the coming academic year. The University Board approved the new guidelines for financial management. Furthermore, the University Board adopted an addendum to its rules of procedure and the new election regulations for members of the Rectorate.
- 150th session, April 30, 2021\ The University Board approved the draft performance agreement with the Republic of Austria for 2022-2024, as well as the 2020 financial statements and the 2020 intellectual capital report. The University Board also approved the 2020 corporate governance report, among other things.
- 149th session, April 9, 2021\ The University Board discussed the Rectorate's draft of the 2022-2024 performance agreement at length. The University Board also approved an amendment to the organizational plan. In addition, the Rectorate reported to the University Board on the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

- 147th session, December 18, 2020\ Following approval by the Senate, the University Board approves the development plan “University of Vienna 2028”. The University Board also comments on the draft amendment to the 2002 Universities Act and discusses, among other things, the procedure for tenure track professorships.
- 146th session, November 6, 2020\ The University Board approves the 2021 budget estimate and numerous investments in digital infrastructure. The University Board also discussed the “University of Vienna 2028” development plan.
- 145th session, September 25, 2020\ The University Board discusses plans for the 2020/2021 winter semester. The Rectorate reports to the University Board in detail on the current situation and the comprehensive efforts to maintain teaching and research activities under COVID-19 conditions. The University Board thanks all employees for their extensive preparations for the challenging months ahead.
- 144th session, June 26, 2020\ The University Board is able to meet in person again, subject to numerous hygiene regulations. The Rectorate reports to the University Board on the current situation and on the new COVID-19 rules planned for July 1, 2020. Furthermore, the University Board has made the nominations for the next term of office of the Arbitration Commission.
- 143rd session, May 15, 2020\ The University Board, which is still prevented from meeting in person as required by § 21 (12) UG due to entry restrictions and the university's emergency operations, has - in order to ensure the University of Vienna's ability to act - in accordance with § 1 COVID-19-GesG and organizational regulations for collegial bodies, passed its resolutions on the topics of the meeting planned for May 15, 2020, by circulation.\ The University Board approves the 2019 financial statements and the 2019 intellectual capital report as well as investments in research infrastructure. Furthermore, the University Board approves the 2019 Corporate Governance Report.
- 142nd session, March 27, 2020\ The University Board, which is currently prevented from attending in person as required by Section 21 (12) of the University Act (UG) due to entry bans and restrictions on leaving the country, has - in order to ensure the University of Vienna's ability to act - in accordance with § 1 COVID-19-GesG and organizational regulations for collegial bodies, passed its resolutions on the topics of the meeting planned for March 27, 2020, by circulation.\ The Rectorate reported to the University Board on the current situation and ongoing emergency operations.\ The University Board approved, among other things, the exercise of an option, investments in research infrastructure, and a change to the development plan.

- 139th session, November 8, 2019\ The University Board approves the 2020 budget estimate and, in connection with this, approves numerous investments in infrastructure for research and teaching. Furthermore, the University Board made nominations for the next term of office of the Scientific Advisory Board and continued its discussions with deans.
- 138th session, September 27, 2019\ The University Board approves, among other things, the Rules of Procedure of the Rectorate and investments in infrastructure projects.
- 137th session, June 28, 2019\ The University Board approves, among other things, investments in research and holdings in companies.\ The University Board also continued its discussions with representatives of institutions with special tasks.
- 136th session, May 24, 2019\ The University Board elected the Vice-Rectors for the Rectorate's term of office from October 1, 2019, to September 30, 2023.\ The University Board approves the 2018 financial statements and the 2018 intellectual capital report, as well as the Kolingasse construction project. - 125th meeting, January 26, 2018\ The University Board re-elected Rector Engl for the term of office from October 1, 2019, to September 30, 2023. At the same time, on the recommendation of Rector Engl and after consulting the Senate, the University Board elected Jean-Robert Tyran as the new Vice-Rector for Research and International Affairs for the current term of office from February 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019. Furthermore, the University Board approved the draft performance agreement with the Republic of Austria for 2019-2021 as well as investments in the area of information technology and human resources.

- 99th meeting, September 26, 2014\ The University Board elected Prof. Dr. Marlis Dürkop-Leptihn as first vice-chair, succeeding Prof. Dr. Wilfred van Gunsteren, with effect from October 8, 2014. The University Board also dealt with construction issues and IT security issues, among other things, and continued its discussions with deans.

- 2nd meeting, April 11, 2003\ The University Board of the University of Vienna elected Univ.-Prof. Georg Winckler as Rector for the term of office from October 1, 2003, to September 30, 2007. Georg Winckler has been Rector of the University of Vienna since 1999 in accordance with the University Organization Act 1993 and has contributed significantly to the development of the university reform. Prof. Winckler presented the main features of his development concept for the University of Vienna and assured the University Board that, under his leadership, the future Rectorate would take advantage of the opportunities offered by the 2002 Universities Act for the University of Vienna, an institution steeped in tradition, in the international education and research arena.
