We offer the widest range of degree programmes

From A as in African Studies to Z as in Zoology: Our students can select from the largest range of degree programmes in Austria. The University of Vienna offers 178 degree programmes, including more than 110 master´s programmes.

Our research and teaching are inextricably intertwined

The University of Vienna is also the largest research and educational institution in Austria with a total of 7,400 academics. Our teaching staff adheres to the principle of research-led teaching in their courses. They impart knowledge about latest research findings and their students are able to participate in original research. The University of Vienna sets future-oriented accents in interdisciplinary innovative research fields.

With its more than 70 locations, the University of Vienna shapes Vienna's cityscape. For many years Austria's capital has been the world's most liveable city and has been ranked among the most popular student cities in the world.

The main building of the University of Vienna houses several institutes, such as the Institute of History, as well as central service facilities, such as the University Library.

The arcade courtyard can be found inside the main building: Here you can learn in good weather or just enjoy the sun.

The largest lecture hall in the main building of the University of Vienna is the Audimax, which offers more than 750 seats in the hall and on the balcony.

You can also learn and work well in other locations of the University Library - the Departmental Libraries - for example in the Education, Linguistics and Comparative Literature Library in Sensengasse 3a.

A location of the University of Vienna near the main building is the NIG - the New Institute Building. Many University Departments are located here like the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology or of Philosophy.

Another location of the University of Vienna is the Campus. Here you will find, for example, the Department of Art History or of Romance Studies. With its many green courtyards, the Campus offers space for rest and relaxation in the middle of the city.

In the Campus, more precisely in Court 2, one finds the "Hörsaalzentrum" with the lecture halls C1 and C2.

The Department of Communication and the Department of Computer Science are located in Währinger Straße 29. This building offers generous learning and communication spaces for students.

The University of Vienna has been granted the status of GreenBuilding Partner for its location at Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1. Here are the Faculties of Mathematics and of Business, Economics and Statistics and the associated libraries housed.

Similar to the Währinger Straße 29, the Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1 has enough learning and communication space for students.

Farther away, in Franz-Klein-Gasse 1 in the 19th district, for example the Department of Egyptology and of Classical Archeology are located as well as the Center for Translation Studies.

At the Center for Translation Studies one can e.g. study the bachelor's program "Transcultural Communication". You can practice the profession of simultaneous interpreter in the language lab.

In the 15th district one can find the Center for Sports Science and University Sports. The University Sports Institute (USI) offers affordable sports courses for students; the offer is varied and ranges from A like aqua gymnastics to Z like Zumba.

In most buildings of the university there are areas where students can relax, socialise or study with colleagues.
