# Tasks

The University Board is one of the highest bodies of the University of Vienna and has the following responsibilities, among others:

- Approval of the [**development plan**](https://rektorat.univie.ac.at/en/strategy/development-plan/), the [**organizational plan**](https://rektorat.univie.ac.at/en/strategy/organisation-plan/), and the draft performance agreement, as well as the **rules of procedure for the Rectorate**
- Advertisement of the position of Rector
- Issuing the **regulations for the election of the Rector** after obtaining the opinion of the Senate
- Electing the Rector from the three candidates proposed by the Senate
- Electing the Vice-Rectors on the basis of a proposal by the Rector and after obtaining the opinion of the Senate
- Conclusion of employment contracts with the rector and the Vice-Rectors
- Conclusion of the target agreement with the rector and the Rectorate
- Dismissal of the rector and the Vice-Rectors
- Opinion on the [**performance agreement**](https://rektorat.univie.ac.at/en/strategy/performance-agreement/) before it is concluded by the rector
- Approval of the Rectorate's budget estimate
- Approval of the establishment of companies and foundations as well as participation in companies
- Approval of the **guidelines for financial management** as well as approval of the Rectorate's financial statements and intellectual capital report and forwarding them to the federal minister
- Appointment of an auditor to audit the university's financial statements
- Approval of the creation of liabilities that exceed the university's current business activities
- Immediate reporting obligation to the federal minister in cases of serious legal violations by university bodies or in cases of risk of serious economic damage, among other things
- Nomination of one female and one male member or substitute member for the [**Arbitration Commission**](https://schiedskommission.univie.ac.at/en/)
- Issuance of the **Rules of Procedure of the University Board** The University Board is entitled to obtain information on all matters concerning the university.
