The Campus of the University of Vienna is more than just a place to study and work: as an inner-city green space and public area, it provides habitats for numerous species of animals, plants and fungi. Since January 2026, an open-air exhibition on the Campus has been highlighting this often overlooked diversity and inviting visitors to rediscover biodiversity in the midst of everyday urban life.

Along busy paths, the exhibition provides accessible information about biological diversity, portrays selected species that occur directly on campus, and shows how biodiversity can be protected and promoted. The campus can thus be experienced as a living ecosystem – and as a place of learning beyond the lecture hall and seminar room.

7/7

Discover the hidden diversity on the campus of the University of Vienna. The exhibition invites visitors to take a fresh look at plants, animals and fungi in their own environment and learn more about their significance. Anyone who wants to can get involved: simple hands-on activities and citizen science projects allow visitors to share their own observations and thus contribute to the research and documentation of biodiversity.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with Öko Campus Wien, an association committed to species diversity and biodiversity-friendly design in urban areas. Öko Campus Wien contributes technical expertise on the selection of species portraits, care concepts and citizen science activities, and raises awareness of biodiversity on campus as a concrete, malleable topic.
