The bachelor’s programme in Byzantine Studies and Modern Greek Studies equips students with knowledge of the Byzantine and Greek culture from antiquity until the present time. It particularly focuses on the central facts, processes and contexts of history, language, literature and life in the Byzantine Empire and modern Hellenism, including their spiritual and material influence.

## Study programme

Following an Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP) and a solid basic education in the core areas of the subject (medieval and modern Greek, Greek literature since late antiquity, Byzantine and Modern Greek history and culture), as well as a specialisation and occupational orientation, students have to write a bachelor’s thesis in the course of a seminar.
