The bachelor’s programme in Sinology aims at imparting basic knowledge of modern standard Chinese and fundamental knowledge in three areas of specialisation: Chinese history and society, Chinese literature and culture, as well as Chinese politics, law and economics since the beginning of the 20th century. Moreover, it strives to introduce students to central questions, theories and methods of modern Chinese studies.

## Study Programme

The bachelor’s programme in Sinology consists of an Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP), comprising the modules Introduction to Modern Chinese and Introduction to Chinese History, Literature and Politics, as well as the compulsory modules Pre-Intermediate Chinese, Basic Knowledge of China and Applied Academic Research and Writing. To successfully complete the programme, students have to write a bachelor’s thesis.
