The master’s programme in Classical Archaeology deals with the material legacy of the Greco-Roman cultural area from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity. The master’s programme aims at equipping students with the skills required for independent scientific work in Classical Archaeology or other cultural and historical disciplines. For this purpose, students develop the ability to critically analyse archaeological questions, use sources and deal with genres and monuments with regard to their key areas. They also acquire job-specific practical competencies (e.g. in excavations and regarding the writing of scientific text types). Due to the diverse possibilities of an individual specialisation, a specific preparation for the desired professional field is possible. Furthermore, completing the master's degree is a prerequisite for a subsequent doctoral degree.
