This course aims to improve undergraduate students’ writing skills in academic and scientific English. It meets the needs of students across various disciplines, providing them with the skills to interpret and write different types of scientific and academic texts with a specific focus on research-based essays.

This course is suitable for students starting their university studies.

Registration information, spring 2026

Registration is mandatory and will be open in Ladok for admitted students between 7 and 11 January. You need to register on time to confirm and keep your place. If you are new to Stockholm University, also remember to activate your university account. Activation of university accounts for the spring term opens no earlier than 7 January.

More detailed course information will be available to registered students on the learning platform Athena.

Teaching Format

The course consists of seminars and writing assignments. Teaching will be online via Zoom. Attendance at online seminars is obligatory.

Assessment

The course is examined on the basis of an assessment of active participation at seminars, as well as written assignments.

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
