If you are a student at Stockholm University (SU), you can now borrow admission cards to the Swedish Museum of Natural History and visit the museum free of charge.

The Swedish Museum of Natural History has started a collaboration with libraries along bus route 540, allowing library users aged 18 and over to borrow two admission cards to the museum for a period of one week. At Stockholm University Library, the offer applies to students at the university who are also registered users at Stockholm University Library (SUB).

SUB has four pairs of cards (two admission cards per user – meaning you can bring a friend to the museum who also enters free of charge). The admission cards are borrowed from the information desk in the library and are registered as a loan on My Library Account.

Seven days loan time

The loan period is seven days, and just like with ordinary books, you can place a reservation if the cards are currently on loan. If there is no queue, the same borrower may borrow the cards again, but only over at the information desk. It is therefore not possible to renew the loan online.

You find the cards in the library search service by using the search terms “”museum entrance card” or “Naturhistoriska”. Here you can check if any cards are available or place a hold if all are checked out. You can also ask at the information desk. The cards must be returned to at the information desk, and both cards must be returned at the same time.

Questions about the admission cards can be answered at the library information desk, in the chat when it is staffed, or via email: biblioteket@su.se

INCREASING ACCESS FOR NEW AUDIENCES

The aim of the collaboration is to reach new target groups who may not have visited the museum before. During the trial period, we have chosen to focus on libraries located along bus route 540, which passes the museum. Since admission fees were introduced at state-run museums in 2023, the cost of entry can be a barrier to museum visits. The museum and the libraries have therefore found a solution that enables museum visits for everyone.

In addition to Stockholm University Library, the offer also applies to the libraries in Tensta, Rinkeby, Hallonbergen, Ulriksdal and Bergshamra.
