The course consists of a case study in mass spectrometry (MS) applied to an analytical question.
The work includes planning and designing laboratory experiments with appropriate MS methodology as well as literature studies.
The course provides practical experience in independently solving an analytical problem with MS.
Course structure
As per above
Teaching Format
Teaching consists of compulsory sessions with lab, group work and seminars.
The course is taught in English.
After the course, the student is expected to:
- Design and develop a suitable MS methodology for a current analytical question, for example in environmental analysis.
- Solve common practical problems with MS instrumentation.
- Optimize the chosen methodology for the best possible detectability, separation and information.
- Search, collate, compare and communicate research materials within MS.
- Evaluate and critically review results from your own research project both qualitatively and quantitatively and in comparison with published studies.
- Write a project report using the format of a scientific article
