Before leaving FPN

Please note that the list is not exhaustive, it merely shows items related to the university or local government. More personal issues, e.g. cancellation of a gym membership or of a mobile phone contract, etc. are not included.

If your home university requires you to submit a certificate of stay/attendance you can send it by email to fpn-iro-incoming@maastrichtuniversity.nl. We sign/stamp the document digitally and send it back to you. Please note that we cannot sign this document more than 3 days before your departure. The last day at our faculty is the day of your last class, i.e. in most cases the day of the last exam.
Within 5 weeks after your departure you will receive your transcript of records by e-mail.
De-registration from the Maastricht University is automatic, no action needed.
De-registration from the Maastricht municipality is necessary when you registered upon arrival. You can do this online.
If you have a Dutch residence permit and leave the country not to return here, don’t forget to hand over your (expired) residence permit at the airport ID checkpoint in the Netherlands. Alternatively, you can return it by mail to the IND from abroad later. Note that it is your personal responsibility to deregister and return your residence permit. \ - Generally speaking, you will need your bank account in the Netherlands exceeding the end of your stay, e.g. for the reimbursement of the housing deposit or for the direct debit of the last month for the health insurance. Best would be to have internet banking which allows to close accounts also from abroad. It is true that you can give new bank details to the Housing Department for the reimbursement of your deposit but if you would have to order for a late payment, you would lose a lot of money for the international bank transfer when no longer having a Dutch bank account. If the bank requires that you close the account before leaving, please see that you care for all payments beforehand.\ - Last, but not least: fill out our questionnaire and obtain a free Maastricht University t-shirt. You will receive an e-mail on your Maastricht University e-mail account with the link.
