General Course - Nonviolent Conflict Transformation and Peace

The General Course (GC) Peace and Nonviolent Conflict Transformation us a 6 CFU (45 hours) free-choice teaching with a final exam.\ The course is part of the initiatives promoted and supported by the Network of Italian Universities for Peace (RUniPace), created by the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI).

In this time of rampant wars, where human rights are being violated globally and with a regression never known in the past, the GC is a concrete response of the University in wanting to contribute to the implementation of Goals 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and 4.7 of the 2030 Agenda, offering knowledge and skills necessary to promote a culture of peace and nonviolence, global citizenship and the enhancement of global diversity.

The course has an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary structure and involves the collaboration of professors from various departments of the University and RUniPace. The course is structured around six main themes:

Peace studies;
Peace, nonviolence, disarmament;
Understanding and analysing conflict;
Peace and human security interventions;
Peace education;
Sport and peace: the Olympic truce.

Of particular significance will be the participation of experts and witnesses from civil society organizations and local authorities involved in peace-building processes “from the neighborhood to the UN.”

The course is an opportunity to learn about the ideas and proposals of the PerugiAssisi Foundation for the Culture of Peace, the National Network of Peace Schools, and the National Coordination of Local Authorities for Peace and Human Rights; the nonviolent intervention actions of Operazione Colomba, the Campaign for a Ministry of Peace, the Project for a Department of Civil, Unarmed, and Nonviolent Defense, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), the campaigns “Italia, ripensaci” (Italy, think again) and “Fermiamo il riarmo” (Let's stop rearmament), and the experimentation of the Civil Peace Corps. It is also an opportunity to learn about the important role that cities play in building peace at the local and international levels.

The course will be held in presence from March to May 2026, in Lecture Hall L of Bo Palace, usually on Friday afternoons from 2:30 to 6:30 pm.\ Start of classes: March 6th, 2026

Registration methods and frequently asked questions for staff

The University reserves free participation for permanent and temporary university staff, both permanent and temporary, for the first 50 places in order of arrival (only the stamp duty should be paid). Subsequent positions may register by charging the full cost.

Regstration is open unitl February 25th, 2026.\ Attendance is mandatory for 75 percent of the scheduled hours.
