At the University of St Andrews, we are dedicated to supporting young carers throughout their academic journey. We understand the unique responsibilities of balancing caring for a loved one with education, and we are committed to providing the necessary support and guidance through the application process.

Who is a Young Carer?

A young carer is someone under the age of 25 who provides unpaid care for a family member or friend due to illness, disability, mental health issues, or substance misuse. This care might include helping with daily activities, managing household tasks, administering medication, or providing emotional support.

Our Commitment to Young Carers

We recognise the invaluable contributions young carers make to their families and communities. At the University of St Andrews, we are committed to acknowledging your unique circumstances and ensuring you have the support and flexibility to succeed in your academic pursuits.
