About the institution

Founded in 1836, Emory University is famous for its Liberal Arts college, professional schools and its extensive healthcare network—the largest healthcare system in Georgia, USA. Located in the historic Druid Hills area of Atlanta and in its original campus at Oxford, Georgia, Emory is one of America’s leading research universities. Emory is home to 8,000 undergraduates and 7,000 postgraduates.

Our relationship

The collaboration between Emory University and St Andrews has been strongly supported by the Robert T. Jones Jr. Scholarships, established in memory of champion golfer Bobby Jones. An Emory alumnus and celebrated amateur golfer, Jones achieved some of his greatests successes at St Andrews, includin winning the Open Championship and being made a Freeman of the City. Since 1976, the Robert T. Jones Scholarship has enabled outstanding graduating students from both institutions the chance to spend a year of postgraduate study across the Atlantic.

Over the years, shared strengths in neuroscience, behavioural biology and psychology have led to a ‘sister school’ relationship, with rich research collaborations and over 20 years of undergraduate exchanges in neuroscience and behavioural sciences.
