The study of classics, Greek and Latin at St Andrews immerses students in works of literature of enormous richness that have provided inspiration for so many areas of later western literature, culture and thought.

Greek courses at St Andrews teaches students to appreciate the history, social values, religion and philosophy of the ancient world. Greek modules cover a variety of areas from the archaic period through to late antiquity.

Latin courses at St Andrews teaches students the language that is the ancestor of many European languages through the study of epic poetry to historiography and letter-writing. Latin modules cover a vast timeline from the pre-classical period to the Middle Ages.

Studying classics combines the study of Greek and Latin literature and language from archaic Greece to the Late Roman Empire, all around the Mediterranean world and beyond.
