In Autumn 2024 the Department of Computer Science will be offering four scholarships to undergraduate students starting their first year of study.

We are offering these scholarships in conjunction with our industrial partner ETAS, part of Robert Bosch GmbH.
ETAS designs software solutions and tools for the development of embedded systems for the automotive industry. It's currently working in conjunction with its partner company, Bosch, to deliver middleware platforms to advance autonomous driving solutions. The company has over 120 employees in York and regularly employs our students during their industrial placement year. Many of our students have gone on to secure roles with ETAS after graduation.
This scholarship celebrates the Department’s strong links with industry and the excellent employability record of our graduates. It is a fantastic opportunity for four of our academically outstanding first year undergraduate students to receive a financial award and to take part in a career development programme with ETAS.

Eligibility
Open to International (including EU) and UK (home) students.
Open to students in the Department of Computer Science.
You must hold an offer of a place for first year undergraduate study, starting in September 2024, in the Department of Computer Science at the University of York.
You must be age 18 or above by 1 January 2025.
The scholarship is open to UK (home) students and International (including EU) students.

How to apply for the scholarship
Please provide a short video (no more than two minutes in length) explaining the following:
- academic achievements you are particularly proud of and why these are important to you;
- why you have chosen to do the degree you have applied for;
- what your future aspirations are and how the scholarship will help you to achieve your future goals.
Your scholarship application video will be assessed on the creativity and depth of thought in your answers. We are interested in your presentation skills but we are not looking for high quality video production.
As well as staff members in the Department of Computer Science, your video will be shared with members of staff from ETAS who will be on the scholarship judging panel.
Guidelines for submitting your video
- You are responsible for all content included in your video.
- Your video should not include any sensitive information.
- Ensure no copyrighted contents are in your video.
- Ensure that your video is clearly audible.
- Ensure your video is no more than two minutes in length. Any videos exceeding this duration will not be considered.
- To enable us to view your video, please upload it to an online platform (eg YouTube).
- The link to your scholarship application video should be sent to cs-ug-admissions@york.ac.uk.
- Include your full name, your email address and your UCAS number in your email.
- Include the subject line “Computer Science Scholarship Application from [your UCAS number]” in your email.
- If we cannot open your video your submission will not be accepted.
How we allocate
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance and scholarship application video.
The final decision will be made by a scholarship judging panel to include the Admissions Team in the Department of Computer Science and members of staff from ETAS.
Terms and conditions
- The scholarship will be awarded for one year of study.
- A first payment of £500 will be paid in January 2025, subject to enrolment and commencement of an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the University of York.
- A second payment of £500 will be paid in April 2025, subject to satisfactory progression on an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the University of York.
- ETAS will provide a coaching programme during the first year of undergraduate study involving a series of meetings with an assigned mentor.
- ETAS will provide a paid summer placement project lasting up to 12 weeks during the summer 2025 vacation period, subject to satisfactory completion of a first year undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the University of York.
- ETAS will consider scholarship students for the opportunity to take their industrial placement year within the company if they are undertaking a course of study that includes a year in industry. This will also be subject to a technical assessment.
