Complete your graduate studies in a program that combines the Master and PhD in French Studies. Under the supervision of dedicated and accessible faculty, you’ll master such rich subjects as: myth criticism, North American Francophone literature, women’s literature from the Maghreb, comic books, contemporary children’s literature, variations in French in North American Francophone communities, Créolité, the study of spoken French of immersion students, psycholinguistics and more. In the heart of Canada’s most diverse city, you’ll meet Francophiles from all over the world and Francophones who speak diverse varieties of French.
Stream and Specializations available to French Studies graduate students include:
- Female voices in literary history: writing in exile or writing as memory
- Theories of literary imagination
- Francophone literatures: transversal and trans-disciplinary approaches
- Interpretation of literary works: hermeneutics approaches
- Language acquisition and cognition: learning and teaching of French as a first language (L1) and as a second language (L2) in a minority setting
- Variationist linguistics: historical, sociological and ethnolinguistic perspectives
- Consequences of language in contact: sociolinguistic and socio-stylistic research into French in contact
- General and historical linguistics: Romance and typological perspectives
