All of our undergraduate courses, including integrated Masters, provide the option to take a year in industry after your second year.
A year in industry is a great way to enhance your CV with real experience. You'll have the opportunity to see what it's like to work in a particular field, as well as being able to put into practice what you have learned so far.
Each student wants a different experience for their placement year, so we offer a diverse range of employers and job roles. Our employers are located across the UK, so we can help you find a company that really suits your individual needs.
Our students have recently spent their year in industry at companies such as Hitachi Rail, ETAS Bosch, Dojo, Thales, Anaplan and the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

How we help you
The Department has dedicated support to help you to prepare for your year in industry. They'll help you with CV reviews and interview practice and host on-campus employer recruitment events. They'll also support you throughout your year in industry.
The team is here to make sure everything goes well during your year in industry and are always available for advice, support and guidance.
During my placement, I was tasked with spearheading a company-wide project. My journey took me from piloting this project through the Proof of Concept stage, presenting it in a Zoom meeting to the Senior VP of Engineering, all the way to rolling it out across three major cloud providers.
